The Black album was their last that was worth listening to IMHO.

Check out these albums:

Kill em All
Ride the Lightning
And Justice for All
Master of Puppets

This is the real Metallica.

WOOD!!!

My sentiments exactly..........the last Metallica Album I bought was the Black album. After that they turned all gay!!

I met them on their 'Ride the lightning tour' before Cliff Burton died

So, Bwgan..........listen to this man; he's got it right

Just got my Slayer tickets.........Cant wait!!!!

ONE :D thats like the classic heavy metal song of all time its got everything you need. A classical style intro and mid section. A heavy headbashing section then a killing tapping solo. That was the first solo i learnt how to tap on a guitar sweet stuff :D

Fade To Black is pretty cool took me ages to learn to play though

True, true...
I think if Cliff were still alive he wouldn't have allowed them to go in the direction they did.

Hell, they didn't even trust his replacement on ...And Justice for All. They pretty much turned down the bass in the mix so you can't even hear it. Plus if you look on the back of the CD with the band pictures; Newstead looks pissed off.

And the running joke is that it's because of what I stated above.

So what was the deal with the huge change after the black album?

I do completely agree, everything else was crap, but why?

Unlike a band like AC/DC or Iron Maiden, they started taking themselves too seriously.

Even ended up getting couples therapy and xxxxx like that.

And justice for all was the first album i ever bought...I still got it on tape, but it's all stretched now.

I finally got to see them at earls court a couple of years ago.. . First song was Battery.....folking rad!

Funny Metallica went all out on napster, after they owe much of their early success to underground tape swapping....and as everyone knows...home taping will kill music.

Ive seen them an embarassing number of times... but never intentionally!
They're always headlining flippin' festivals, and I got free tickets for them once in manchester.

Their set always feels the same though - 9 out of 10 classic songs, followed by one of the newer ones which noone cares about, followed by a tedious rant from whatsisface, then a thankfully brief drum solo, then another bunch of songs which sound more or less like the album :bang:

The audience participation version of seek n' destroy at manchester was good though! :D

Seeing Muse tomorrow - that should be a more interesting gig! :D :D :D

That sounds like every gig I've been too

Ooooohhhh I'm jealous about Muse

Tried to get tickets for Wembley, but they've only got seated left :?

Yeah, I couldnt get tickets for wembley (S Boy is going to wembley though!) but Mrs Drowning has got friends and family in birmingham so we're going there instead! :D

Although the fact that the rock bar (Edwards) burnt to the ground on saturday has thrown a bit of a hiccup into our pre-gig plans! :?
