I don't get this grade stuff you peiple are always talking about. What´s that?

Here in Brazil there is no such general thing. You get your instrument go to classes and there is no general grade thing like this song is grade one, that scale is grade 2. I don't want to say having something like that is bad, just paying too much attention to is sounds very weird.

I would say the beginning of learning is knowing each note A B C D E F G, or do, re, mi... in you guitar for at least the first 5 frets, major and minor scales and basic chords. That will let you play lots of stuff. The rest is positioning youself and your fingers in the right way and developing intimacy with the instrument, strenth and speed.

Many times we just learn to blindly play songs and scales with no understanding of what is going on. I went a long way like that. Not good for your performance and expression though.

grades are just a way of seeing how good you are at an instument, and they go from grade 1 to 8. I am grade 4 at guitar.

Grade 1, Danny, would be basic pentatonic scales and a basic knowledge of chords. go buy a grade 1 book and work our way through it, you'll probably learn quite quickly. i wouldn't wprry too much about it though, the best way to ;earn guitar is finding songs you like that aren't too hard and learning them. i have never taken an actual exam i just have fun playing :) all the best.

i reckon electric is probably easier, with a bit of practise you would be about the same standard as on classical real soon i thinks :)

The ABRSM (associated boards of the royal schools of music) they don't do e. guitar but here are the requirements for grade one scales wise for classical, it can't be that different (then again grade one electric keyboard is like a million times easier than grade one piano):

Scales: in the following keys (minors in harmonic form only, with right-hand fingering i.m.:

C, F, G majors; A, D minors (one octave) fairly easy.

Chromatic Scale: starting on G (one octave), with right-hand fingering i.m. (really easy)

Arpeggios: the common chords of the following keys: (annoying)

C, G majors; A, D minors (one octave) (slightly weird)

you'll also have to do three vageuly cantrasting pieces. A few if my friends did exams from Trinity College of music and it's apperantly easier. They may even do electric guitar!

p.s. Classical guitar players make the worlds best electric bass players (in my opinion).

I have been playing electric bass in a band for a year and a bit and there is a guy in my church who is grade 8 classical guitar and he plays bass sometimes and he is awsome. i think clasical guitarists are awsoem bass players, he has just started in a band playing bass but ive been talking to him and he says that he never practices on his bass. his knowlage of harmony makes him good he dosnt play it like a guitar. jsut to voice my opion about clasical guitarest beening good bassists.
