How much do you love your car?

Postby sal » Mon Nov 06, 2006 3:23 pm

I'm not a 'car person', lets just get that clear! But my answer to the above question has to be:

LOTS!!!!

My car is an old mark 2 Golf named Freddie (yes, he's a boy!). Bought for £400 nearly 3 years ago. In that time he has:

- driven the equivalent of Cheltenham to Cairngorms and back 7 or 8 times

- driven us (me and my ex) to the French Alps and back, over winter, whilst spending 3 months sitting outside the chalet we ran with 3 feet of snow on his roof

- overtaken a Porshe (and no, it wasn't parked!)

plus all the normal, day to day kind of driving for 3 years!

and today's latest feat....

...just had a phone call (about 4:00pm) from a friend saying "I've just driven past the car park, did you know Freddie's lights are on?". resulting in "f**k, bleep, etc" and the slamming of the door as I leave work and leg it across town to the car park where I left him at 8:30am. Switch his lights off, put the key in the ignition....and he starts FIRST TIME (and second, and third!).

So, really, this pretty pointless post is just to say THANK YOU FREDDIE! I love my car!

awwwww that's so nice! I love my car too. it's a bit like me - a lot of the time it just can't be bothered, but whenever I'm going surfing it's always up for it, and kinda smiles to say thank you for taking it out to the beach.

It's broken down 3 times this year. I don't really mind, cuz we all have our bad days, but the RAC sent me a letter saying if it breaks down again, they will CHARGE me to come out. I'm furious. I mean, what do I pay them all that money for? I phoned up and they said they had a limit on the number of times they will come out. 3 times in a year isn't THAT bad, surely? AND.... the year before last, i didn't call them out at all - not once. I feel ROBBED of my money :(

*rant over*

I still love my car though!

I'm not a member of AA, RAC or anything, which I know is pretty stupid, but I've not needed them once in 3 years! I do carry a spare can of petrol though!

I know most recovery services have a 'tow you home within one mile' or 'tow you to a garage if more than a mile' thing going on. Just wondering if any of them offer a 'tow you to the beach if more than a mile' option? That would be most useful!!!!

I used to have a mk1 fiesta called 'The Bean', because it was baked bean coloured. It was so beaten up that on the day i passed my test, the police pulled me over twice.

Nowadays i hate cars, they just seem to rinse me of money when i realy can't afford it... the only reason i've got one is to carry my board.

Well my current car is a soul-less , character-less piece of yawn-ness

but the Saabstar .. now thats a different story !! .. that car got me out of Brixton the night that " The Lenchmob & Ice Cube were asking the audience not to kill too many white men please !! .. woot woot .. a cracking story that one :D

the Saabstar ..pulled me and lil'man thru the floods that wiped out that village on the north devon/cornwall coast a couple of years back ( i forget its name )

.. the saabstar has got me up and back from the french alps same as Sal ( ..err have we met !!??!! )

A car with many stories and much character .. aww man i miss that car but fleshit ive got the worlds nastiest motoybike to take my mind off of her :woot:

Mk 2 Golf Eco turbo diesel. Starts first time every time. The secret of reliability is regular maintenance.

And not buying a Ford.

Not very much at the moment. Starter motor has packed up and its in the garage being looked at by the car doctors ;)

On the plus side, my mate has lent me a car though. A tow truck. With a big flashing orange light on top  And the idiot showed me how the lights works

I persuaded my mate to let me tow her crappy little Diahatsu just so that I could have the flashing light going.

We went bunker hunting the other night (going in the old WW2 bunkers in the middle of the night and scaring the xxxxx out of yer mates). Went to one lot in St Lawrence, theyre tunnels that go for miles. We had walkie talkies and had a mate sitting in the car ready to turn the flashers on so that we could find the exit of the tunnel (too many split off tunnels to know which ones which!!)
