Ok, so I'm finally thinking about getting one but where do I start? The last one I owned was back in the early 80s. Can't remember what it was called but it had little orange joy sticks and we used to play that ping-pong style tennis thing on it! Was browsing the net and things have certainly moved on since then. I'm really confused... I mean I just want something small that plays a few decent games not something that washes my clothes or does the ironing too (well, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean). So, any ideas? I've seen handheld things and ones you plug into the tv, xboxs, playstations, nintendos and loads more. What do you all think? I'm not after fancy technology - just something cheap and simple to waste a few hours each day till my shoulder gets better.

Hey Thaya, hope your ok ? The old console i think was called Binatone. I got a playstation at the moment, easy to use and very good graphics, you can get one quite cheap , cos the PS3 is due out later this year.
The plug and play consoles cost about £20.00 and contain the older games like pacman etc. Argos sell them.
Hope this helps ?
Take care and get better soon :)

Whats even cheaper is using your pc to play games or play some of the Internets free games. I play pool and poker online a lot.

But if you want a console for your tv so you can sit back on the sofa, like said above the ps2,xbox and gamecube are cheaper now. You could get a cheap playstation 1 even or something older from ebay. Seen a lot of cheap consoles on ebay that come with a load of games.

I never play my ps2 that much anymore, only play Kelly Slaters Pro Surfing now and again which rules!!

wait 4 ps3 if you want to play the latest games, otherwise invest in a decent gamepad for your pc and get games off the net for free with bittorrent or emule (which is of course illegal and something i would never do  ), a pretty basic pc would be good enough to play kelly slaters pro surfer game.

Also you can get emulators for the pc which allow you to play games from the older generation of computers and arcade machines - many of which have been released by the original authors for free on the net. (check out MAME if you like the old arcade machines).

Hey Thaya, hope youre feeling a bit better now.

Ive got a Nintendo DS, pretty much only play one game on it (Sims 2), havent played it in a while though, cant find the bloody charger. Tis a nifty little thing, and they do a smaller version of it now too.

Also got an X-Box lying around somewhere which I havent played in over a year (lent it to my brother and he lost all the cables!).

Why not get some computer games for your pc, definately cheaper and theres hundreds around.

What kind of games are looking at playing? In my opinion, if you want to play sports games, like madden, get a console, but if your more of a First Person Shooter lover, or a Real Time Strategy game lover opt for PC games! although, with getting a console you dont have to worry about heavy system requirements (many of the newer PC games require the most up to date PC which can be a bitch, because it costs buttloads to upgrage)

thanks guys and gals. I've been looking at some things on ebay but not made any final decisions yet. Glad to say I'm feeling a lot better now. Well, I'm not in as much pain and I've got over some nasty withdrawal symptoms from the strong painkillers I was on! Feeling in a more positive frame of mind. Still can't imagine surfing for ages though... my arm just doesn't move. Am staying with mates up north at the mo, so got some company when they're not at work. Sick of day time TV AGGGGGGGH! I sometimes wonder what the world is coming to :?
