The NASTIEST thing happened to me last night!

I was trying to get to sleep, lying naked on top of the sheets because it was so hot, I was half asleep, and I felt something walking up my leg, across my arse and onto my back. For some reason (half asleep) I thought someone was tickling me.

I woke up a bit and realised that it felt like a spider, but really heavy. At which point I slapped it, and it felt like a f**king MASSIVE spider. And it BIT me, really hard! I jumped up and screamed and it went flying, within 10 mins the bite had swollen to the size of a marble and it felt like the muscles in my chest were getting tight. I guess I passed out / went to sleep, woke up this morning feeling xxxxx with a huge mark on my side, with two little red puncture marks. The strange thing is you don't get spiders big enough to bite people in this country!

It's mid afternoon, and I feel fine now, but whatever it was I don't think I killed it, and I think it's still in my room somewhere!

Get this checked out!!

I got very very very ill following a spider bite (i was camping in america tho...in a forest in New Hampshire) The first bite I had looked really small, like nothing so I didn't bother to do anything, but the venom had got into my blood stream and I was ill for about a year afterwards.
Strange looking bites would keep appearing and I had 4 operations to remove these 'bites' (don't wana describe them, they were horrible)... including one that appeared in my eye.. and had to have my eye cut open under local anaesthetic, so I was awake at the time...I shudder remembring it...

It was all a bit gross... SOOO, take it from me - GET IT CHECKED!!!

I don't generally bother with Doctors, and I seem to be alright now, so I'm going to leave it unless I get any strange health developments.

Seriously though, I'm damn sure it was a spider, and you're NOT supposed to get any biting spiders in this country!

That happened in Newquay!!

Luckily the woman who got bitten had a masters degree in Zoo-ology (spelling?). She rang the ambulance, who said they would be there in 3 hours... but fortunately she knew that this kind of bite can kill in 1 hour...so she kind of suggested they come a little quicker!

I do feel a bit rough, but I'm guessing it's mainly down to lack of sleep and an ear infection I came down with the other day. It has left a nasty mark though, (although it's fading fast)

yeh it's fine now... the bad venom just worked its way out eventually.

Stonefox...if that bite swells up any bigger, take care of yourself. It's on your side isn't it? If you start to become breathless, or you start to get painful muscles and joints, or you notice any other swelling/tumour type things over the next month or so, then go and see a doctor.

Otherwise, I'm sure and hope that you'll be ok. It may have just been a gnat!

Thanks for the concern hun, if anything goes wrong (alright, wrong-er! :) ) with my body I will be straight down the doctors!

I got a spider bite in Canada that made me pass out, my friends called the ambulance and I was pumped with some kind of drug that did the trick, I really can't remember too much about it, as has been said - get it checked out.....

Hide behind the sofa. Or just don't look! :D

I think maybe one reason I didn't get badly ill was that I'm taking high strength antihistamines anyway.

DEFINATELY get it checked out.

There's a common little spider over here called a "White Tail". These are wandering spiders that eat other spiders. They are agressive. They like to crawl under doors at night.

Around ten percent of them carry a particular bacteria. And a certain percentage of the human population has a bad reaction to this bacteria when mixed with their venom. Skin necrosis. A progressive dying of the skin that can take place after the initial bite heals. Lovely.

They aren't the only species that can cause it, either - the American Brown Recluse is well known for it.

I used to keep a drink (open container) next to my bed at night. One night I woke up thristy and went to take a drink. But for some reason got spooked and turned on the light... Whitetail spider floating in the top.

I use pop-top bottles now.

All spiders bite bro even in the UK .. so i would keep a very close eye on it ... even if it got a reasonable amount of venom in you it probably would only irritate and itch but you could have some strange unknown reaction to it and who knows what could happen ... chances are it was holding onto you whilst supping some sweat not technically a bite but itchy & scratchy all the same

my guess is you'll be fine but if at some point you start looking for a gurl called Mary Jane and have a new found interest in blue & red lycra then dude ... summats up
