Hi guys,

I'm relatively new to surfing (5 months) and none of my mates surf which is quite annoying as you never get a phone call to say the surfs here like I did when kitesurfing :(

Anyway, I keep an eye on most of the obvious channels magicseaweed, local surfshop report etc. Some of you guys have been saying you can't wait till friday when the next surf is due. I checked (MSW) a few days ago and friday was looking good, I know its a long range forecast and can change all the time as the weather does. However, there is a point that I'm slowly coming to, friday now looks pretty sh1t 3ft @ 5 secs (North wales). I checked Sennen just to see what all of the hype is about and they've got 5ft @ 8secs. So, if the swell is travelling towards N Wales how can the waves get closer together time wise?

Firstly, the swell this weekend isnt going to be classic... it should hopefully be a small clean summer wave. The only reason its being talked about is people are going to be there anyway :D

As for why its looking okay for cornwall and cr@p for n. wales - '3ft at 5secs' is magicseaweed talk for 'a bit of chop'

The low pressure is going to be weak and too far north for any wraparound swell, so its not going to be travelling up past cornwall, along the irish sea to finally end at n.wales. North wales is just going to get some locally developed wind chop. Hence the period being a mucky 5secs. Also, 3ft is "measured" offshore, so its not gonna be a nice waisthigh swell probably by the time it hits the shore (bit of local knowledge needed here).

So, in a nutshell, I wouldnt plan any n.wales surfing trips this weekend

And even cornwall/n.devon is still only hoping for a good wave, rather than expecting...

Yeah dude, unless you go to ceriad you won't get anything barly ridable on that kind of swell on the Llyen. There period just isn't there. Its why I don't stay on anylonger than May in Northwales. Only a Autaum and winter area for me. The swells just get too bashed up traveling there unless they are solid groundswells.
