Had my laptop, purse and keys stolen from the university library today. Gutted. Only had the laptop about a month as well. Whats worse is that it doesnt look like i'm going to be covered by insurance as i wasn't at my desk when it was pinched.

Still have 3 more exams to go so trying to revise inbetween police reports, cancelling cards and getting the insurance company to give me a straight answer.

Even better is that my parents are on holiday in Spain so cant get hold of them to transfer me any money. Also means i have the exciting prospect of telling them i've lost NZ$2400 of equipment (which they paid for) that i probably cant claim back. Gutted. Totally fleshin' gutted.

F**KERS!!!!!

In the university library????

One thing I've learnt over the years is never to tell the insurance company the truth...........You have to give them a story where it's totally impossible for them to back out of paying out!

Try putting notices all over the university.............hopefully you can shame them into giving it back :?

That well and truely sucks... you have my deepest sympathies!

Kick up a right fuss though, make sure your univesrity and everyone in it knows that its missing, if it was someone from the Uni they wont be able to keep it for long if everyone is looking for it

Hope you get it back or get lots of insurance money!

Some people are such assholes, sorry to hear about that Libby.
If you are thinking of getting a new laptop stay well clear of ebay as my mate got shafted buying 1 the other day.

Thanks guys hugs much appreciated.

Going along to the police station shortly to lodge the formal report with serial numbers etc, or at least i will do after the locksmith has been. Because of the type of locks we have at uni its costs over $1000 every time a key gets lost or stolen. Luckily students only have to cough up about $100 of it and uni accomodation pays the rest. Still i reckon its bit harsh charging you when its stolen as well as when its lost! Then it will be on to the insurance people, but i know fine well what they will say. And the sad thing is they will be right - I shouldnt have left it unattended, but then what do you do, pick it up and take it everything even if your only leaving your desk for 2mins?! I guess i will from now on :?

Funny thing is the things i'm most bothered about losing are a couple of key rings Brent bought me and some lectures i had recorded on CD.

Aaah never mind. Its a small country you never know it might show up.

Thats crazy, where I did my undergraduate work, they gave you 2 lost keys/lockouts free, then after that it was $5 or something, they used card keys like hotels.
It's a bummer about your stuff. I always lug all my stuff with me, even when it's just a quick trip to the ladies room, unless I am studying with someone.

Thats terrible news. Big hug goes out to you lib. Hasn't the library got security cameras? I left my pen drive in a uni computer before and someone stole it, but I asked to check the cameras and they found the thief and got it back for me.
Makes you wonder what kind of world we live in. Theres a lot of scumbagging thieves about!
Well I hope you get it all back, good luck to you!

OH MY GOD!!!!

All your good karma paid off guys, really really fleshin' paid off!

I went into uni to get a new ID card today (i cant sit my friday exam without one) and while i was getting a card from the main admin place they got a call asking for details of a student from the police, i overheard them talking and heard my details being read out, i rushed over and it turned out that at the EXACT time i was in the room the police were ringing to find me as they had recovered my laptop, purse everything!!!! For some reason my police report wasnt in the system yet so they were tring to track me down with my student ID. Nuts!!!!!

I've got everything back, minus $10 and i had to pay for my lock to be replaced as the locksmith came before i spoke to the police, but who cares! Its even better as i had spoken to the insurance people this morning and they were refusing to pay out a thing!

I'm still in shock. I've lost revision time which sucks a bit but i realise I have been extremely, ridiculously lucky and almost feel lie someone was watching out for me today.

Thanks again for the good wishes, maybe it made a difference :?
