I've lost my recipe for chocolate brownies and I promised a mate I'd make her some in time for the next England game (hey, you've got to eat while you watch the match...) Can anyone help?

My brother and I had a crack at making brownies using 1 of those packs you can by from any supermarket but we added about 1oz of 'soapbar' so they tasted like eating tyres funny thing was after consumption of just under 1/2 my brother managed to get his arse arrested on the train from Somerset to Wales    because he just completly sketched out not knowing where he was or what he was doing

I buy the packet mix, not too bad if you add a special extra !!!

Thanks. Even if you add a "special extra", the packet stuff still wont be as good as something you make from scratch. I've been searching the internet for my recipe but can't find one that looks exactly how I used to make them. I'll know it when I see it. My search continues.. I've got 2 days anyway. x

They are the best thing to put all your plants of cuts into! Seriously, just blend/grind all that leaf you'd normally chuck and stick it in the mix.... Carnage!

Given up searching for my usual recipe. Have decided to try getting a packet mix. Going to make some tonight. Will let you know whether they taste as good as my usual ones! Shame I can't share them with you all...

Dug out my Betty Crocker Cookbook just for you :D :
Ingredients
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
2/3 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups Gold Medal Flour (it's a common brand in US, if you use self rising flour, then omit the baking powder and salt)
1 teaspon baking powder (not baking soda)
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease baking pan (or spray with cooking spray) pan should measure 13 by 9 by 2 inches. Melt chocolate and shortening in large saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat. Mix in sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in pan.
Bake 30 minutes or until brownies start to pull away from sides of pan. Do not overbake Cool slightly, cut into bars and serve.

I prefer to use Ghiradelli's package mix, it's a lot easier.

thanks SDCali! I resorted to a packet mix last night but it wasn't good - in fact it was pretty bad  Will try yours next time. x
