Injuries

Hiya folks,

Just a quick story to tell you lot.

Played football after the Arsenal game on wednesday (and what a game it was :D ) went in goal, saved a shot and my wrist got bent back a bit to far.

My bone was totally taken out of place. Anyway i went into hospital straight away on the wednesday night and found out that it needed to be pulled back into place. They decided to keep me in through the night and i found out that i was going to go into surgery Thursday morning.

Went into surgery they pulled my wrist back into place but it wasnt holding, so they needed to put a couple of pins through my arm.

Everything went ok and i left the hospital thursday night with half a cast on.

Have to go back next week to get a full cast on my arm because they have to wait for the swelling to go down. Then in 2-3 weeks have to go back to hospital for them to take the pins back out.

The real bad thing is that it was my writing hand, so no college for me in a long time 8)

They will be taken my cast off in 6 weeks time.

Just wondering if you lot have had some bad injuries in your life?

If you want to share them that would be great.

Fly

P.S this took me about half an hour to write

Aren't you supposed to be sulking because you can't go surfing for the next six months? I sure would!

Anyway heres a story for you...

Once my screw-gate on my harnass went loose while I was busy rock climbing, out of instinct, while falling down, I grabbed the rope with my bare hands... Both my hands burnt to the bone and was also out of school for about 2 months...

Didn't need any hectic operation or anything though :?

I was boarding on rock hard snow in Italy about 10 years when I slammed mega hard. Being inexperienced at the time I stuck me arms out and completely nuked my left shoulder. Dislocated so badly one of the tendons in my rotator cup ripped out almost completely from the bone - in fact a bit of bone wibbled about every time I moved my arm - could see it through the skin. hmmm pain.

I thought I was going to lose function from my shoulder altogether at one point but surgery and months of physio sorted mey out. Shoulder is still a bit crunchy and it does a slightly weird thing when I rotate it ,but hasn't affected me surfing in the long run.

I'm sure your wrist will itself out - but listen to the doctor and do ya physio

lol PW, surprised you didnt end up half commiting suicide on that one.

Worst one I've had so far... broken ankle/foot that keeps breaking...

1 - Went out on the lash. Wore heals. Got very, very drunk. Left one nightclub, started heading towards another one. Some eejit infront of me threw a bottle on the floor, I trod on a broken bit of glass, fell off the pavement. Got up a few minutes later having nearly p*ssed myself laughing, carried on to the next club and eventually went home, limping slightly.

Woke up at about 8am literally screaming my wobbly things off. Carefully slid down the stairs on my bum, leg in air, hoping that either of my parents were at home. My Dad met me at the bottom of the stairs and nearly fainted when I presented my hideously swollen leg and foot. Both were about three times their normal size and a lovely mixed shade of black/purple/blue.

Apparently a shattered foot and 4 breaks to an ankle will do that.

Not surprisingly, went down to A&E, got x-rayed and got sent up to a ward. Theres me, sitting in a hospital bed, leg raised to ''encourage'' the swelling to go down, and dosed upto the eyeballs with morphine (lovely lovely morphine).

Went home three days later, leg in plaster, with a pair of really crap crutches and a sick not entitling me to 13 weeks off work.

Now my bosses werent really impressed with that, being as I was drunk at the time of injury (and therefore responsible for the injury...), they were even less impressed the second time it happened.

Once again, was out on the lash, this time accompanied by said crappy crutches, 6 weeks after having plaster removed. Misjudged the pavement and flew off it. Wham bam, another break. Apparently broken bones can take a while to heal, and being out of plaster doesnt guarantee that the bones wont break again if you trip awkwardly. Ooops. Luckily, it wasnt too bad the second time, and I got off (un)luckily with a mere 6 weeks off work.

Luckily, the next time it happened id changed jobs, and had just bought my new motorbike. Which I fell off after some dozy cow ran out infront of me when I was on my way home at 11pm on a friday night. Bike landed on top of me, exhaust burning into my leg, and leg pointing in the complete wrong direction. This time, i'd also put my hands out to try and ''break'' the fall, and landed myself with a twisted fracture of my tibia, broken foot (starting to get bored with this broken foot malarky), broken left wrist, broken right elbow and dislocated right shoulder.

The police couldnt get into my treatment room quick enough to breathalize me, and didnt give me the opportunity to tell them that the reason I was on my way home, was to get changed to go out and get p*ssed.

Now, manouvering crutches whilst youve got two arms in plaster is near impossible, so this time I got to say hello to the wheelchair that was to keep me company for a couple of months. NHS issue - grey plastic, rusted chrome and stank as if someone had not only died on it, but had been left to rot for a while. have got a beautiful scar on my elbow from where the surgeons took bits of splintered bone out, and my left leg resembles a tube map.

I quit drinking after the second accident, and sold my motorbike two years after the bike accident, thanks to a few near misses.

I also end up in hospital every time I go on holiday, but thats another long post and im tired

Ouch!! :D

As for me? Don't ask...! I'm accident prone. (or is that just suicidally brave / stupid?)

Broken or damaged most every part of me over the years.

Been fairly lucky so far...(touch wood TOUCH WOOD!)

Fell off my bike when i was six, straight over the handle bars and landed on my face, which promptly got dragged along the road, suprisingly few scars left from that though.

So many horse-related injuries i can barely remember including many many concussions, horses falling and landing on top of me, broken wrist after being bucked off onto a road etc

Opened the fridge once and a bottle of wine fell out, i jumped back to avoid it but somehow managed to rewrite the laws of physics by landing on a peice of it....must have jumped in slow motion or i have really bad reaction times :?

Havent really had any surf related injuries, apart from wiping out and cutting my foot on a shell......ain't exactly hard core though eh?

riding a bike when i was like 12 and fell of and hit my head on the sidewalk right in fron of my house. got really tired fast and went inside and fell asleep as soon as i layed down on the couch. didnt realize i had a concussion. i probably didn't even know what a concussion was.
