Hey All

Been playing around with the idea of shaping myself a fish!!

This obviously led on to some kind of design to go on it! :D

Since I was bored at work, I thought I'd knock something up - unfortunately the only tool available to me on my work PC is powerpoint.

It's not a great, but here's an idea for my fish design (don't pay attention to the shape - it's not easy to get in ppt!!)

What do people think?

Cheers

Sinista

hello!
definitely try it, i shaped (never got round to glasing as i couldnt get epoxy) an egg a while ago and you get so involved with it you do so much research into design and function and stuff and it really changes your perspective and makes you appreciate boards so much more.
what materials are you planning on using and where are you getting them?
best of luck (big tip: before you cut the foam make a life size template out of parcel paper, firstly a design that looks hot on A4 can look wierd and lumpy and totally out of proportion when you enlarge it, i made about 6 templates and my final shape still felt a bit ugly, also, when you get a template you like you can lay it on the foam and draw round it so you get a perfect shape first time and dont damage the foam making lots of measurement and stuff.
anyway im going on and getting boring :D best of luck
And hello again everybody, gosh ive been gone too long!

sinista, have you looked at APS 3000? its a dessign program, you can do everything on the computer, you can do the outline, rails, concave, pretty sweeet program if you're still looking for something. I have recently started looking back into it, something like a 7'6" eggy shape or a 6'8" single fin. I was looking into epoxy, and people have made it sound a whole lot better. 1/3 of the amount, whole lot less mess, whole lot less smell, which is basically what has been holding me (my parents) back from doing it.

post some pics when you do it sinista!

and you can epoxy eps foam which is oh so easy and cheap to obtain (2 large sheets, £8 from wickes)

yeah, the lack of clark has forced me to look into the other options, which are sounding great. I was talking to this guy who has been helping me out with skate deck making about shaping boards, and he said he used cheap foam, which I didn't know existed. also I just made some molds for a skate deck press out of XPS, which is suposively the messyest thing on earth.

How expensive would it be to get that put on a board?

You'd pretty much have to buy a new board and have the graphics done before it's glassed.

I was actually thinking of shaping and glassing my own from scratch so it would probably cost me less! :D

But could turn out to be rubbish!! :?
