is 17 the driving age over there?
they keep changing it here but its now 16 and 3 months -- what a random useless time to get it... :?

At the risk of making myself very unpopular on here, I reckon it should be raised to at least 18! Plus I believe the French idea of Conduite Acompagnee is great - when you pass your test you have to drive for the first x time (i think it's a year) with an experienced driver before you can drive alone.

I base this on the fact that I thought I was a great driver back then. I wasn't a speed freak, I thought I drove very sensibly, but I don't think you get enough experience before being let loose on your own - at least not in this country (UK).

yea, we've kinda got that over here. at 15 and a half(earliest), you get your learners if you pass the test, then 9 months after that (and having passed drivers ed.) you get your lisence, with some limitations, such as not driving between 10 and 4 at night.

what i definately think they should do is no matter what the driving age is, have the drinking age lower than it. at 16 most the kids think that they wont drink and never have end up doing so around 17ish and get hammered then get in their car that theyve been driving for a bout a year.

kinda screwy aint it?

very true... looking back on my first year behind the wheel it's amazing i'm still in one piece... i drove like a proper retard. the roads back home are tiny little country lanes and i used to hoon around at ridiculous speeds thinking i was a legend until my brother crashed doing the same thing and it knocked some sense into me!

Happy birthday :D .

Driving - I reckon there should deffo be a v serious upper age limit cut off - the current situation here is frightening  ! Maybe having to redo tests every 5yrs or so would be a good idea too.

Yeah. Would keep the flat-cap/blue rinse brigade off the roads as well, they must be responsible for thousands of crashes from people trying to overtake them when they're crawling along an open road at 25mph :D it's very difficult to drive sensibly when one is seething with rage from being stuck behind a pootling grandma

Happy Birthday/

I am 16 in a week and i am quite excited to get my lisence so i must say i disagree with the late age cut off i mean its probably safer and all but if i dont get my lisence soon i am going to die from lack of surf :/

Man if you live on the East Coast then you're suffering from the 'When I learned to drive, cars could only do 30 mph tops, so that's how fast I'm going to drive now' scenario.

When I took my test at 17 in the UK, there weren't compulsory lessons, no theory test & the test only lasted 45 mins.

I had a lot of conversations about this when I lived in Germany, where it was fiendishly difficult to get your license.
