Dial up and broadband internet

I have just got my broadband internet back after moving house and oh my god what a relief.
For a couple of weeks now I have been using one of the prepaid dialup products. Being back on dialup was a nightmare. The internet seemed to have slowed up to a crawl. Having a decent connection I forgot what how bad it could be on some heavy graphic large page sites - watching your life tick away waiting for a page to load up.
Does everyone on the forum have a decent internet connection or are there lots of dial up users? I found the speed of this site not too bad using the dialup - but it's much better on a nice connection.

I know what you mean. About a year ago, I had a 10 Mbit line, and when I moved it speed was reduced to only 2 Mbit. Altough this is faster than a lot of people around, it was a nightmare. I have managed to get a 4 mbit line, now, so it's getting there.

The worst thing is using internet while you travel. Some places have fast connections, but rural areas are not recomended places to send your pictures home using internet.

You can check your speed here. It's in gibberish, but all you have to do, is click on the speedometer.

It depends on where i am, at uni i have a broadband connection in my room which is really good except that it encourages me to spend too long on the internet. At my parents house in the holidays (or when im in the country) its a whole different story though, not only do they have a very slow dial up connection, their computer is windows '95  !!!!!!!! Seriously, i kid you not. It takes five hours to switch on, about 3 months to log onto the internet and just as i log onto hotmail of surfing-waves it crashes and i have to start all over again  Hopefully by the time i make it back to the UK next year`they will have updated it :?

I have 1MB connection now but thinking of getting 2MB (my current available limit).
Is there much difference in browsing with faster connection or is it just downloads that are quicker?
I read somewhere that most uk homes will be able to support 8MB line by end of this year :D !
