I've heard the "rule of 1/12", roughly speaking an incoming tide moves 1/12 during the hours the tides change, 2/12 the next hours, 3/12 the next two hours...
From observation I see large tide bores 1-2 feet per wave at high tide. The "rule of 1/12" would suggest that I should see the most limited tidal shifts at high tide. Why does it seem like the tide is coming in fastest at high-tide?
