Hurricane Irma - aftermath

Postby billie_morini » Sun Sep 17, 2017 3:30 am

ʻO kaʻu d pepeiao e nā kaikuaʻana
(My dear Bra's & Sista's),
Billie is silent in our delightful forum because he rescued his dear Mother from the aftermath of hurricane Irma. A couple of days after Irma ravaged Florida, there was flooding. Billie's elderly Mom was evacuated due to flooding late one night and was taken to an emergency shelter. Billie learned about this from a voice message while on a one week business trip in SoCAL. He dropped everything and flew from San Diego to Atlanta and then drove 9.5 hours to Kissimmee, FL, to rescue his beloved mother from an emergency shelter. And, he rescued her! from the shelter. Because Florida was such a mess and 60% of the state did not have electricity, billie took his Mom to Mrs, Morini's family in Marietta, Georgia. Mom and billie will remain here for many weeks to many months. Best wishes to all of you.

billie's bro-in-law made the best smoked ribs billie may have ever eaten in his life! In addition, there was apple pie, blue berries with whipped cream, and 2 inch long blackberries. The forests in this region of Georgia are beautiful. Here's a photo:

Here's the southern flying squirrel ( (Glaucomys volans) that entered the house!

If you are out and about in the Georgia wilderness and hear some banjo music just turn around and go the other way (obscure Deliverance reference)
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Glad to hear that your mother is safe and comfortable in the middle of Southern Hospitality!

thank you, Salty and Ol' Man.
Mom is nearly 89 years old. I'm teaching her to use a simple flip-style cellular phone that also has text capabilities. This is hard!

I lived in Norcross and Stone Mountain for 7years....I really enjoyed my time in GA, and only 4 hours away from NC family. I had a forest with trees like that backing my backyard, would go for hikes with the dogs in the summer evenings.....amazingly only a half hour commute to my job downtown (18min at night!)

Glad to hear about the rescue....I have friends in St. Thomas and in Nevis and they are having a very rough time.

Wow Billy, with my own little relocation adventures, I didn't notice this....... hope you are making the best of this for you both..... such big disasters require so much more help for each person effected. Stay well and enjoy being with mum.

Mrs Jaffa and I are now in Vienna tomorrow off to saltzkammergut :D
