Tremors.....

Postby Big H » Tue Apr 11, 2017 1:20 pm

Indonesia sits on the so called "ring of fire" which essentially designates the fault line that the islands evolved from via volcanoes which popped up through the fissures between tectonic plates as this is where two major ones come together.....they don't always sit still and we have a lot of earthquakes here. WKK knows what I'm talking about....when I lived in Japan as a child my mother told me that I used to laugh and run around whenever we had a quake which was fairly often. Not as funny anymore....I've been doing office work for the last hour and a half and about every 5-10 min there has been a tremor of varying strength culminating in a 5 sec shaker about 10 min ago.....not enough to set off alarm bells like a few weeks ago when we had a solid hit (which I didn't feel since I was out in the surf :) ), but enough to make me uneasy for sure......

We are also worried in the Bay Area. It's important to have an emergency plan for your family. http://www.earthquakecountry.org/roots/step2.html

Bolinas actually sits on the Pacific Plate and could slide 21 feet in the next "big one."

Marin County Earthquake Hazard

The San Andreas Fault traverses Marin County running north and south in the western quarter of the county. It enters Marin on the Pacific Coast near Bolinas, follows the path of Highway 1, and Tomales Bay, exiting Marin at sea just west of Dillon Beach.

The San Andreas Fault was the source of the magnitude of 7.8 earthquake in 1906. Marin was sparsely inhabited at that time and experienced relatively moderate property loss and only two deaths. The epicenter was just two miles west of San Francisco and West Marin experienced some pronounced earthquake effects. This included a horizontal earth displacement of 21 feet near the head of Tomales Bay.

There's a lot of foreigners here to see the Cherry Blossom ( Sakura ). And I just got back from Hawaii. No earthquakes so far. Tourist freak when they feel one, but we're like " oh, the water in my cup is moving, must be a tremor". It's when the pictures on the wall bang back and forth....... those are scary.
