Hey there! We are planning a small ship cruise trip to Michigan Island. I've never been there before and I really want to know whether, we can do any surfing there. It's been long that I've surfed and I've actually agreed for this trip was mainly to get a chance to surf. Is it possible there? I tried searching the net, but couldn't find any right answers. http://www.blountsmallshipadventures.com/index.php//where-we-go/2016-magical-lake-michigan?view=itinerary Also, the itinerary too doesn't say much about it. So would really like to know.

There is surf in Lake Michigan but you are not going to able to access it from a cruise ship on the Lake.
Racine, Sheboygan and White fish Bay come to mind but getting the lake swell and weather conditions to give you surf, and you would have to bring your own boards and wet suits. fresh water has less buoyancy so you will need bigger boards.

Really, enjoy the cruise, if you want to reconnect with surfing go where there is consistent surf and non arctic survival water temperatures.

The surf map on Surfing waves above has 2 lake Michigan spots neither from an island. Magical seaweed has a bunch more. But I did a search for Lake Michigan surf clubs and found a facebook page that is Nothern Michigan Surf Club. I bet they could give you some details.

Sorry, Jilian4. Normally, surf around Lake Michigan occurs from October to April.

Where are you going? There is no major island named "MIchigan Island" within Lakes Michigan and Huron within the State of Michigan borders.

Possibly, Jaffa. However, I think it is one of America's well-educated youths.

That must be so COLD over there that time of the year! Gotta be so desperate in order to brave the chill in the middle of February. I'm too much of a wimp for that.

Surfing on the Red River near Michigan State University. It looks fun but I wonder how far downstream you get swept in a wipeout. There's a similar spot on the Sacramento River but methinks a longboard will not fit in the pocket.

I can tell you, salty, you will wear a 5mm or 6mm suit with matching booties, hood, and gloves. There is often ice on the lake and snow dusting on shore.
