So what about where you live? I think it's difficult to end it because of historical cultural acceptance. When I was a kid if a man was beating his wife or vice versa everyone looked the other way, now most times people will jump in and stop it or call the police. Around 10 years ago I was involved in an incident. I was fishing and a guy was slapping his wife/girlfriend and loudly yelling. Me and my fishing friends went over and put a stop to it and called the police. The wife/girlfriend refused to press charges and the police told me that was a common thing. I take it they hate to respond to domestic violence cases because the chance of them getting involved in a physical altercation is high but the chance of them ultimately making a difference is exceedingly low. As a kid growing up I once heard two women talking, one was saying that she thought her husband was having an affair, the reason she thought this is because when her husband came home Friday night he didn't beat her up like he usually did. I think it becomes expected, their parents did it they did it their children do it
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I agree that it is hard to end these kinds of practices, but it definitely can be done. The US is a hell of a lot different today socially than it was in the 1950s. Where I live beating your spouse is completely unacceptable. It still happens here, though, but it doesn't have any sort of social acceptance whatsoever. The social norms do not dictate that a man has to beat his wife because some social taboo was broken. Don't get me wrong, though, there are social norms where I live that I find utterly repellent. I'm grateful that many of the most stupid norms from the past are no longer condoned publicly. People are still struggling against deformed social attitudes. This reminds me of the great film Yol.

Just go through a review of household appliances advertisement and the good housekeeping manuals of the 1950s and 60s. Ask yourself how many of these values are evident today!

Violence in any situation is a abject failure from wars to domestics!
Domestic abuse has more facets than violence?
An alert for us maybe, I would like to hope our forumites are a little more enlightened!
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷
