Surfing Waves

Tsunami warning current for the west coast of South America, plus Hawaii and Polynesia, after an 8.3 earthquake off Chili.

Large tsunami waves already reported.

Fingers crossed the evacuation is in time (or better still, nothing happens).

And OMS - anything happening in your necks of the woods?

Some parts of south Asia also in the firing line, and potentially even NZ.

Going to be an interesting few hours...

surfs up!!! but I have to get up at like around 2:30 am to 3:00 am to catch it. They haven't detected a tsunami on the monitoring devices yet but monitoring for it

I read in our papers that there's expected to be a 1m swell increase in NZ.

Speaking of hawaii waves.. my mate is over there at the moment and has never surfed before but had a couple of good days on a 10-12ft rented board.
Where should I recommend he goes?

Not much effect here so far. Seems to be just a couple feet raise in tide.

we had the warning, too, for SoCAL and Central Coast Cal. Total bust. For us, it was nothing more than sensationalism reporting.

Be il a tsunami will not increase the general swell size the actual wave of the tsunami will a wave or a series of waves almost unnoticeable as an oceanic wave they travel extremely fast but are not high. But the wave length can over 600km, so it just keeps coming and coming and piling up upon itself, there may be a number of pulses but each exceeding long.
Papers just present sensation, not the real epic picture of what they do until it is done and tragic.
Would I go to the beach if a tsunami was expected? NUP, high headland maybe.
