Sailing on Adriatic Sea

Postby billie_morini » Tue Aug 06, 2013 2:57 am

No surfing this Summer holiday. But, there was plenty of salt water. We sailed the Adriatic Sea on a large catamaran. The sea is translucent, deep blue, and very salty.

I commented on your gallery photo, I thought it must be a holiday pic.
Lucky you.

Gabe,
it was the best holiday ever! We went to many coves and some islands off the coast of Croatia. I liked all the local people and loved the wine and food. If there was surf in the region, I'd have remained there. We hoped to sail from Croatian to Italian waters, but the winds were not with us.

Fantastic. Croatia is a beautiful corner of the world, I really enjoyed my stay when I went there a couple of years ago. My brother bought a place there so I'm fortunate to be able to go back there if I wish.
Are you an experienced sailor?

Gabe,
Where is your brother's place located? I'm a huge fan of Croatia now. I loved all the little villages, fish, and wine. I liked the people, too.

I'm not an experienced sailor, but I am comfortable on and in the water. I spent a lot of time with canoes and motor boats growing up and when a young adult. I did have a small sail boat as a kid. But, I've never bother to learn the finer art of sailing or the terminology. So, it does little good for the Captain to tell me to grab the halyard, for example. The catamaran we sailed is owned by my best friend. His boat is moored at the marina in Sibenik (north of Split).

His place is not far from a town called Plomin, right on the coast. Here's a map.

I'm no sailor either, but this is the kind of trip that I'd love to take one day. That's one handy friend to have :-D

Boy, that is cool, Gabe. Plomin is about 300km north of Sibenik, Croatia. Sibinek is where my friend moors his ship. We must keep in touch about this. It would be cool if your brother's home can become a destination where you meet us there when we sail in.
