Posted: Sat Nov 27, 2004 9:23 amActually, there's a few things that don't ring quite true about this whole saga that perhaps you've not heard overseas....
For one. The guy who authored the story waited three weeks before making it public. Why? I imagine if I'd been "saved" by Dolphins I'd be singing the fact from the rooftops from the moment I made the beach in one piece - wouldn't you? Why keep it a secret for three weeks? Pu yourself in his place...you'd be a blabbering fool from the moment it happened...wouldn't you?
Two. The guy has a direct financial interest in several minor tourism ventures in the immediate area it happened. I read today in the Herald the websites supporting local tourism (whalewatching/bed & brekkies/eco-tourism etc are taking a pounding and it's the best local marketing the place could have lucked onto....money can't buy global advertising like this.
Three. several of the immediate people involved in the event didn't even know it was happening. They saw the Dolphins going nuts sure...but no shark. Only one person saw the shark. How can a swimmer head-high in the water see a shark off in the distance if it didn't once break fin through the surface? I can't do that on a surfboard?? There were no waves or unbroken swells to refract the shark...it was calm & about 80 meteres out the back.
I'm not saying it didn't happen. I suspect however it's been cooked up, romanticised abit and "though through" before being released.

Posted: Sun Jan 02, 2005 12:31 pmNo i dont think that its true that if you have dolphins you dont get sharks - if you read some diving sites about diving in egypt you are warned not to dive straight in when you see dolphins in open water cos theyare associated with groups of sharks

Posted: Mon Jan 03, 2005 7:48 amI'm not saying it's not true. Just that the information as reported in international media didn't paint the FULL picture. Namely his three week delay in releasing the "information", his being the sole witness to the event- not event those directly involved saw the shark, his direct financial interest in the local eco tourism/back-packin industry.

Posted: Wed Jan 26, 2005 7:38 pmEven if the story isn't true, doesn't matter, still lots of stories about why pretty much anyone who goes out into the seat should love dolphins....Kind of dissapointing though that someone would make up something like this and raise doubt over other similar stories...
