Guy from Colorado needs some help

I live in Colorado. I am an big time skier/snowboarder, I do tons of rafting and some kayaking. I am going to be traveling to LA and SanDiego a bunch over the next six month. I have surfed a bit in the past but never had the opportunity to prgress at all. I need help, ie surf school, locations, board ideas, whatever. Thoughts?
