Howdy Ya,

Im 24 yrs old from Sugarland TX. I was searching for a surfing forum & found this one & I've just joined the other day since i will start surfing soon. I have decided to wait a year to get in better shape that im in right now. Im pretty actived with Kuk Sool WOn - Korean type of martial arts / dancing & working out. I also would like to make some friends on here. In the meantime i will be reading up on different surfing stuff. Try to figure out how to put a car rack on my car as well in general.

Not from TX, but know a thing or two about conditioning and driving to surf breaks. Before I moved to Santa Barbara so that I could be very close to surf, I lived in northern California (NorCAL). I had to drive 1 hour minimum to reach a surf break. I'd do this two Saturdays a month and on the other two Saturdays drive 2 hours to Santa Cruz. You'll have about a 1 hour drive from Sugar Land to Galveston. You'll find this is not difficult to do. You'll also find that you'll surf longer on the days you go to the water because of the distance involved. I used to surf for 6 to 8 hours when I had to drive. Now that many surf breaks are within 15 to 45 minutes, I find I often only surf for an hour or two. This fits in better with work, but I don't think I "read" or "feel" the water & its currents as well as when I spent more time in the water.
