Do it. It's the only sensible option.

If you can get your company to sponsor you, then its pretty simple.

Of all the big cities, only perth and sydney are directly on a surfable coastline - and (from what Ive heard) Perth is pretty inconsistent on the city beaches. If you're after reliable surf (not to mention jobs and lifestyle) sydney will be your best bet.

I moved from UK (manchester) to SoCal (San Diego) because of surfing (and damn lucky to have a company that has office at both locations). I'm now working on getting immigration to OZ, sunshine coast or north New South Wales.

Trust me, you will not regret it. The wave quality in OZ and Socal will really help when you want to improve and go out every day.

SoCal is so immensed in surfing culture you can't help but absorb it all in even if you are semi-interested.

Of course the downside is the crowds :).
