Surfing Waves

I'm shamefully still pining over the loss of my car, which i had to sell for scrap when it broke ages ago . it was my first car, which i had for about 8 years, and i grew very attached to it. we had such good times together it was my home on many a surf trip... i used to sleep in it in laybys to save ££ i stuck a big seaturtle bumper sticker on it when i got back from hawaii and i was gutted i couldn't get it off to keep.

i know it sounds REALLY silly in the grand scheme of things, I mean it's not like someone's died, and believe me I do have much more important stuff to worry about. I keep telling myself "it was just a car" but I still think about him often (yes, my car was male!) and miss our little adventures.

is it normal to "miss" a car? is your second car easier to part with? I reckon if i got a new car it wouldn't be so bad, but i'm not gonna be able to drive for a while cuz of health problems.

Maybe i miss driving, rather than miss my car? that's probably it. Just wondered whether i'm totally mental or whether any of you are attached to your cars too?

i grow attached to cars and sometimes name them (OLIVERR!!!!!!). the first one, my dad's 1996 honda accord, was lost due to piss poor road maintainence and a telephone pole. i was really sad about that. i literally almost cried when i had to get all my personal belongings out of it before it was taken to the scrapyard. i loved it, 4 doors so all my friends could pile in, super reliable, just a good car. then i got a 1997 honda civic from insurance money. i didn't really like it all that much, i wasn't too attached to that one. two doors was kind of annoying, not much trunk space. but a good little car. then i moved to vw's. my first one was my friend's 1988 jetta gli i bought from him. that was jeanette. it was a sick car. quick, handled like a go kart bone stock, and 4 doors again (though the rear handles kept breaking so it was sometimes a 3 or 2 door essentially) and the trunk you could easily fit 8 dead hookers in. that had engine problems that i didn't have time/money to fix. so i sold that, and literally an hour later i had a 1989 golf, audrey. it's only 2 doors, but it's do-able. the hatch is nice. and we've been through all kinds of stuff together now. she's been good to me. i do get attached to them. they're (almost) always there when you need them, they take you all kinds of places, you have great times inside of them, they can demand money and care (at least the mk2 vw's. there's always something that can be fixed/upgraded), they don't talk back, or just leave you for no reason. so basically kind of like the ideal woman, minus the whole money pit thing. but for me that's kind of self induced

My 4wd has got sand from loads of different beaches all over it, dents and scratches from heaps of adventures, bits of fish guts stuck to the seats, a five year collection of mud, squashed insects, possum body parts and bits of tree permanently bonded to the bodywork, and it stinks of rotten wetsuits. It's been through rivers, up mountains, done heaps of road trips and crashed a few times. I've done 100,000 k's in it, it's buggered, and I'll be gutted when it dies, it's like a good mate, favourite board or comfy old pair of boots.

due to a pending legal case, i'm not at liberty to discuss any further but, you could probably get double digits if you did some serious work. nobody else has heard of the 'dead hookers (bodies)' measurment system for trunk space?

Know what you mean, i still miss my old GSXR 600 and the Ducati 748.

But as soon as the weather changes i will be out there on my GSXR 1000 !!!

Of course I always get attached to my car. For me it is considered as my house extension.

had the same with the old bimma of my dad...
523i, friggin battle ship.. all quite, all smooth, everything working, just ace...
learned driving in the car and got my own key, as gift from my dad, the day i got my licence...
drove it around for over 10 years... roadtrips, foreign countries, transports, off to concerts and special parties, open airs etc etc etc etc... realy went through a lot with this car...
after my dad died (almost 3 years ago) it was one of the only things left on the long hand, that he had used...
so when i had to give it away (it started to have quirks with the gear box and the engine) half a year ago, before driving away with the new one, i looked back and had to shead the one or other tear...

man i loved my car and it broke my heart when i had to sell it last winter. it was a 1990 vauxhall astra, most reliable ride ever. name was Emil

Still driving the same car I did when I started driving 13 years ago, a 1996 honda accord. Great car, fits several shortboards no problem, even a 9ft longboard when you flip down the back seat. I'll be sad when it goes.

Of course! I gets attached to mechanical things a lot. Especially if I'd worked on them - servicing or fixing bits and pieces.
I think a lot of SAAB drivers do... we are a dying and rare breed.

I am still driving three year old car. I love it and never wanna sold it, as I've still no any issue with it.
