Best of luck - I'm doing the same thing next week, moving inland, never lived away from the ocean before, it's gonna do my head in, but I'll be living 10 minutes away from one skifield and half an hour away from another 3, but spewing about being 3hrs from the nearest waves.

Trying to get back up on your board when you've fallen over in powder snow is a great workout for your arms!

I imagine there is some great climbing in Colorado as well a mountain biking! That'll keep you fit in the summer!

thanks thaya, and everyone else. i heard youre supposed to get a snowboard that is as tall as your shoulder and as wide as your foot. is that true even if your over 6 feet and your shoe size is 13???

Go to a shop and get them to hook you up, with a size 13 you might be getting some toe drag on the wrong board which always sucks.

But I'm a skier I don't have a clue whats up, haha.

Anyways, have fun dude, I'm going to the mountains too, but the difference is that they are small mountains and not cold. So it's just really far from the water.

You'll have fun.

Try riser plates? My snow buddy uses them, says it makes a world of difference.

I'm 6'4" with size 12 feet - never have a problem getting the right width boards.

My current rides for the white stuff are a 166cm K2 Ambush, semi wide, with built in risers, don't think they are made any more tho, and a 164cm Arbor Abacus, which is a powder/freeride board - quite wide 26.5cm waist, haven't had any problems with toe drag, and it's the closest thing to riding a surfboard in the snow that I've ever used. Totally sick board when there's freshies, goes great on steep bits, but a bit unpredictable and twitchy on the flats.

But just go to a few shops and see what they say. Make sure you try loads of boots on, and get them properly fitted, sore feet aren't fun.

I'd say a 162-4. I'm 6' and a bit lighter than you and my first board was a 162. Basically you go long for powder/speed and short for tricks. Most boards have a wide version these days which you should look at before risers, but I'm not sure if you'll need either with those girly feet!

Take Tomcats advice, go to a shop and get fitted, you call always take their advice to the internet!!
(Oh my!! Am I suggesting someone doesn't support their local shop!!! )

Seriously, I'm excited for you!!

Have you checked out my videos?

Right size, good condition, base should be flat and have ptex on , no delamination and the edges should be sharp and not worn.

Any edge damage or delamination/cracks I'd avoid.
