Sorry jray, it looks like we have a lack of Canadian surfers, although we did have a post from someone wanting information on Vancouver island I think it was - maybe they have not been back.

I AM Canadian, eh

Hey jray...I'm from Winnipeg and yes I surf...just not here. There are some good beach breaks at Long Beach, Vancouver Island. The water is freezing cold even in summer, so full suit is needed. I lived in Mexico for a bunch of years and surrfed there everyday( almost). Now I just go once a year. I get seat sale tickets on the chartered flights to Mazatlan. If your just beginning, it's alot easier in warm water...but hey, surf is surf no matter what the temps!!
Good luck.

Hey jray. I'm from Ontario and I surf Lake Erie (note to swimmer anna - you can surf on lake ontario - look into it a little bit more there girlie - check out lakesurf forum)
of course the best surf is where you are a local, but other than that, Nova scotia is great. the lawrencetown area is one place to check out. i'm heading to tophino in august and hopefully it is as good as i've heard
hope you had a happy birthday and have caught a few waves.

From Alberta go to Vancouver Island, Long beach Between Tofino and Ucluelet. In Toronto Go to Lake Erie, Huron (Sauble Beach), and Yes even Lake ontario.

Resources: surfingvancouverisland.com, Lakesurf Form;

Forecast for the great lakes: crh.noaa.gov/grr/marine/windwave.php

I just got back from a three week surf trip on the Vancouver Island and ya long beach is alright...if you dont mind surfing with like a million people all around you and at high tide the ocean end when it hits a bunch of longs...There are so many beaches along the pacific rim hwy. (between Uclulet and TOfino) and its all about finding your own...GOTO the Friends of clayoquot sound office in tofino (331 neill street and ask for there booklet that show all the beaches between tofino and uclulet its 5 bucks but its sweet and anyways the money goes to stopping clearcutting in the area or something! --- O ya the water cold...(10C but if you get a 4/3mm wetsuit you can surf for like 5 hours... :D

there are tons of breaks in tofino and uke that have no crowd. don't be discouraged. the waves this summer have been great for learning. if you want some really good waves.....make the trip in the fall/winter.

So you surf, eh?

I don't, but I would love to...

Don't the waves in Lake Winnipeg ever get high enough to surf?

I live in Barrie, Ontario (like 45 minutes from Toronto), and I was wondering if anybody knows if Lake Ontario is a good lake for beginner surfers.

Hey im from Victoria, BC. Tofino is an awesome place to surf, but also if u want a place not too crowded and really close to Victoria then go to Jordan River, its only like an hour drive from Victoria. Good spot for beginners. Gimme a shout if you're goin there anytime soon
