skim boarding

did it for the first time today.. wow.. it sucks in 4degree (Celsius) water..

i might be a wuss for saying that but damn it was blowing about 20+ knots with about 7 degrees celcius water out there no shirt just shorts... i think i will sport my wetsuit next time..

anyone skim board here? I've watched friends do it a lot and never realized the potential of it.. after watching some youtube videos of badass skim boarders its amazing what they can do.. its like they are riding surf boards on the waves.

can't say I would ever say to my buddies "hey lets skim board" when the waves are anything near waist high.. i'd feel like I was wasting good waves on a little slippery board.

I've got a woodie....and a wooden skimboard (boom boom).

Being from Brighton, where the surf isn't the best, it was good fun for those hot days when you lie on the beach with your mates. But when you hit those little ripples in the sand...you do go flying.

Yeah I can understand that. I think I would appreciate skim boarding a lot more if it was warmer or if I had a wetsuit on. The wind was the killer part yesterday.

Tried it in France last year and despite nearly breaking my arse, really enjoyed it.

Question, to wax or not?

you have to wax it, same as a surfboard.

my friend has a skim board that he custom made out of foam and resin.. it literally has the shape of a mini mini micro shortboard haha.

he can rip it too with that thing.. gets air off even the smallest lips.. pretty fun to watch but i reaaally sucked at it.

Used to do it all day long for miles and miles as a kid. Back then, we rode parallel to the shore. Broke my big toe 11 months ago trying it 45 years later. The toe remains broken because I refuse to stop surfing and working on my house.

yeah i skim quite alot at my local break, been skimmin for about 3 years(cause their aint much surf) its gd at high tide tho when it gets up on the bank any swell will dump on the shore and you can ride out and get some nice wave rides on the right day. has helped with my surfing quite alot as well.

I saw a lot of those when I was in Hawaii (fiberglass skimboards), I think there is a company based in Maui that makes them.

my buddy rides a epoxy skim, slot stick. Like a mini surfboard w no fins. He rips the thing, big air and power gouges. I can get it going fast enough to hurt myself.

skim is a lot different from when we ran parallel to the beach, on flat circles.
