Faliure rate is more like 17% of the mk1's anyhow.
Mines still kicking after 2 years but MS think basicaly they can all go pop or so thus the 3 year RROD warrenty.

i think the failure rate is more like 100%. i bought mine in early 2007, so maybe ot the new ones coming out now, but everything before 2007 for sure.
stonefox- xbox came out earlier, thats why i got it. but thats part of why they are xxxxx, they rushed the release to beat ps3. honestly, i wish i had waited. all i need is guitar hero and gta4 anyway. but sony isnt really reliable either. remeber the problems with ps2?
also-ive been a member for 4 years so 1000 posts isnt that much.

Just joking dude, not really saying you're tight and all.
Yeah, I'm feeling you on the sony thing, I've been through 3 PS2's over the years but apparently the PS3's are golden.
There's no way I'd buy a 360 at this stage of the game, given how much more powerful the PS3 is, how much better the graphics are, the fact that it's also a 1080HD player etc.
I'm still using a 2, but when my mobile contract comes up for renewal O2 will give me a free PS3 and there are some games out for it that make me drool!

Yeah I'm the same, too many free gifts to choose from, but decided on a games console to play gta.
Wasn't sure which one, but articles like this
http://www.hardcoreware.net/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360-one-year-later/
made me decide to go for the 360, note how it says the xbox have better graphics! I couldn't really find many articles as in depth as this one that said ps3 was the best.
I'll never buy blueray or hd dvds so that isn't an issue for me, but price of games is!

i thought the price of games is the same if its the same game.. no?
i dont think 360 graphics are better. blue ray disscs can hold more info but 360 has a hard drive and most games dont use that much yet..
does the ps3 version of gta have the same multiplayer? the multiplayer looks great.

hey is gta as big in the uk as it is here? i know it was made to be critical of our (and your) culture, made by english guys too... i better get my xbox back before it comes out
i heard manhunt was banned there. that was a great game.
anyone recognize my avatar?

I thought that was you in your avatar! (thats my shadow in mine).
Yeah GTA is big here, Rockstar North is actually a Scottish company.
Did they really ban Manhunt? I know they were trying to blame the game when a kid killed his mate with a hammer "execution style", but I think only some shops refused to sell it. I could be wrong though.

360 games are great, usualy better than the PS3 version.
360 graphics (at a hardware level) is better than the PS3 too (tho Cell is faster than Xenon).
RROD is about 17% of old mk1 consoles but you get a 3 year warrenty anyhow.
Bluray disks hold more info yes - but games arnt that big yet and wont be for a while (excluding daft Jap RPG's) , the BR drive is slower than the DVD rom of the 360 though and as devs know theres a HDD there its now common to have a 4 or 5 gig 20/30min install before you can play your PS3 game.
Know a few PS3 owners (with the 20gig HDD) who are having to repetedly uninstall/reinstall games now, and that 20gig is eaten by 5 or 6 games. You can upgrade it cheaper than the 360 but after 2 years or more I still have 7 or 8 gig free on my 360...
PS3 definatly has potential, but all the current crop of consoles have major weak points along with their strengths. GTA IV will be a better experience on the 360 I think, especialy with the 2 extra episodes on DLC.
+ I love my 360 for media streaming , works ace.

whatchu talkin bout? they havent announced what the downloadable stuff is. but i agree with you there.
i think the failure rate is 100 percent. i got mine back in january of 2007, i dont know if its one of the "old" ones youre referring to. i hope they fixed the problem with the new ones. if not, if mine doesnt get back to me before gta, or breaks soon after, im seling it for a ps3.
my avatar is from warriors, the greatest multiplayer ever made

Uh mines still working fine, so its not 100%

It is high, and probably inexcusably high.
Downloadable stuff will be 2 episodes, probably two mission paths and nwe map areas, 5-10 hours playtime, I think there aiming bigish because there wont be a GTA V out for a while. Probably 1000-1600 points.

My 360 is sitll golden. Literally got it the day it came out. I took tha day off work, and was playing it by 9am release day.
My understanding of the problem is that its due to thermal circulation. Like it is overheating. When it overheats, some of the solder on the main board melts, and capacitors, and chips pop out. My fix for this is, dont put it in a friken cabinette with no circulation around it. I have it sitting on top of a desk, and there is tons of air around it. I probably have thousands of hours of play time on it, with no problem at all.

Batman, mines well ventilated too but the issue is that the CD-rom restricts airflow over the GPU cooler, so shouldnt matter how ventilated it is that area doesnt get enough airflow.
So its heat build up + the x clamp on the Xenos and the ball solder system. Mines been fine for 2 years, but MS have said any and all of the old design could fail:( In reality it looks like ~20% are.
