Life insurance...anyone got it?!

Postby derbyshire surfer » Wed Dec 19, 2007 11:09 pm

Hi all,

O.k I was having a discussion with my 'missus' the other day. I've been surfing alot more recently and getting abit braver venturing out back. We just happened to mention the 'what if'? Question...What if you should drown while surfing?!!! Never really thought seriously about but...I have a house/mortgage and was wondering IF anything ever happened does anyone know if you can get life insurance for 'dangerous sports'? Hopefully it'll never happen! I wouldn't really want to leave her 'up the creak' should I ever croak whilst out surfing lol!!

Sorry to touch on a 'downer' of a topic lol! I guess sometimes you have to face reality.

ANYWAY Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Life insurance, if you get it, wont be affected by surfing.

Unless you drown of course, then it would be affected, because you'd be dead and no longer eligible for life insurance
But they'd pay out to the mrs.

It's fine for surfing. Snow sports can sometimes be excluded along with things like climbing and motor racing, and sometimes if you are within xxx miles of a war zone - which sounds amusing, but someone I know realised they had invalid life insurance when they were on holiday in Cyprus, being close to Lebanon.

I'm insured up to the eyeballs, got a mil on me, a mil on the wife  and the company I work for have 2 mil on me, which is a bit scary.

Warning insurance troll evidence 1 post on an old, old thread and he's on it.

Seriously in Australia surfing is not considered a dangerous sport.
Motorbikes, skiing, mountain climbing and hang gliding are. probably more.

Think insurance if you have loved one who you would leave mortgages or debt of any type. Then getting insurance cover to discharge those debts and your body and funeral costs would be the minimum I'd consider.
Consider too how long your loved ones would need to recover and perhaps be able to go back to work.
Family talk needed on this.
Surf travel insurance too, getting you back from the islands of wherever, without insurance could bankrupt your family.
Fortunately most reputable surf resorts and boats insist on sighting insurance, Feral trips you really are on your own.
You really only have to choose a company that is genuinely reliable, which ones they are in your country, I have no idea.

Hi jafa1949...regarding this thread I started, (years ago) I genuinely didn't knw if you could get it or not, I don't work for an insurance company or anything, it was a genuine inquiry. Hope I have got the wrong end of the stick ;-)

Cheers

Hi Derbyshire, it's not you who I'm accusing of being a troll, it was a johnny come lately, who with one post resurrected an antique thread and laid out a whole range of insurance products.
After I'd given him a poke the Forum Moderators deleted him, so it looks like I'm poking you ( not so).
Put down your stick unless it's your surfboard
Your question is important and should be seriously considered by anybody who surfs and has a family.

Now a more important question, where do you surf in Derbyshire :?: I'm going to go and google, to have a look :!:

I'd say life insurance covers life. I don't believe they care HOW you die (unless it is very suspicios ), it pays to have it for your missus and children. I do not fully understand insurance but I believe that is the gist of it. You might want to check with insurance companies to be 100% sure

derby,
during the years I've been involved in risky activities, I carried more life insurance. Primary reason is I wanted my wife to have a few less troubles following my demise. When I raced motorcycles, I carried tons of insurance. When I stopped racing, I lowered my coverage. Now, like you, I'm beginning to surf more (again). I'm inclined to increase my coverage a little bit, but not as much as when racing. The driver this time around, though, is we have two homes and two mortgages. So, to keep my wife from becoming destitute upon my demise, i'm insuring to the hilt.

Hi Billie, how are you doing? I have specified about surfing on my insurance 'just incase', I think it doesn't make a difference BUT should there be any issues, they know up front :-) p.m'd you too, hope everything is ok 'you side'

I have life insurance policy with AIG (they're global) and if I'm not mistaken, they're very liberal about who gets what life insurance plan and the payment plans are actually not too shabby. If I were you, I would recommend giving them a call to inquire about what insurance you can purchase. Believe me, they'll be willing to work with you.

For those who have a family they are supporting, are married with or without children, have grandchildren who they would like to secure financially at least and more, buying a life insurance plan is a great idea.
