Snowboard/Skiing Thread!!

Postby Real Pol » Fri Nov 09, 2007 5:35 pm

WoooooHOOOOOO!!!

So it's getting to that time of year again when we think about our snow holidays!!!

Considering I almost threw my first snowball of the winter last night due to the almost blizzard conditions we had  and now that I've booked my flights for February I thought we should have a thread where we can all boast about our up-and-coming snow holidays!

I know some have mentioned them already elsewhere on the site, but please repeat continually!! :D

So, I've booked flights to Geneva for the second week in February. I'm gonna have a week in Chamonix followed by a week in Verbier!!

I've never been to Verbier and Chamonix is always a great laugh!

Where are YOU going :?: :?: :?:

Not for me

The season finished a month ago, I'm just ticking off the days until next June.

Hope it's a good one for you guys in the Northern Hemisphere. We had a shite one in the South Island of NZ, until the very end when it puked, and a few of the mountains that were still open got 1.5m of powdery goodness in a week.

First weekend in June at Mt Hutt, on the South Island. Lasts through till October time depending on the snow. Most of the other mountains near home kick off late June or early July, all depending on when the snow comes.

Up on the North Island it's a bit different, gets going in July, but lasts through till November, and sometimes they get the lifts open for Christmas Day, which is summer, so it's basically skiing snot in a t-shirt.

North Island sucks though, thousands of Aucklanders on it every weekend. The small South Island fields in Canterbury get 50 - 100 people on them on a good day, but it's all rope tows and hiking, and you have to drive up to the lifts, so you need a solid 4wd and some cojones to get up there. There is some great terrain when the snow is good.

anyway, back to the original question, "Where am i going snurfing :?: "

well on January 12th, i will be off to Chamonix for Deux weeks.

for the last 2 years we've been to Meribel, and that was pretty damn awesome, but we want to keep mixing it up so we decided on Chamonix this year, maybe the states next year.......maybe

i've heard that Chamonix is really good for off pisting, Real Pol, is this true :?:

if anyone who's been there before would like to give me any tips or guides, that would be ace

Chamonix will change your life!!

Off piste everywhere! I've not really got any tips cos it'd take all your life to get to know that place. I think it's impossible not to have fun in that place.

I'd probably be able to give you more tips on the town than the slopes!

Gah, Chaminox, Whistler, New Zealand.....dang....I thought I was gettin lucky this year!

I'm bummin' a place of a person this year and going to Steamboat in Colorado for a week.

Getting ready for the season which is trying to start up around here. Apparently they got some snow in the mountains this weekend, I didn't find out till today, otherwise I would have gone out into the parks and hit some great 2" slush :D anything for fun!

Waxed both pairs of skis and my buddies snowboard just out of anticipation!

HA!!!!!

I live in Virginia, lots of people don't even know that we have snow here. Probably because we don't, haha. All I ride is man-made, but it's what we've got so I ride as much of it as I can!

American Geography was never a strong point for me at school.

(I wrote some witty jive about where Virginia was near......then I thought it'd be better if I actually knew where it was......the fact that it's just south of New York ruined the whole thing!!)

(Okay, I just zoomed out on my google map and realised that "just south" is probably an understatement)

(How long will it take to get to Colorado then?)

( :D )
