Sharks

Deanne, I live a little up the coast in Virginia Beach and have been in the ocean in South Florida but unfortunately, no surfing. I didn't have any problems. I"ll tell you what I"ve heard about Florida and hopefully it'll help. First off, as for the 17' Great White that was spotted off the coast- that was further north in North Carolina's Outer Banks. There was a video of the shark posted on Surfline.com and I went surfing a little south of where it was spotted the following weekend along with tons of other surfers. I wouldn't worry about Great Whites on the US east coast. Florida has tons of sharks and many people get bit, that is true, but they are small sharks (think ~ 4 foot) and they are mostly nips. Yeah, if you're unlucky, you might need some stiches, but you're not going to lose a limb or a life. Here's a great link that will give you some realiable info about Florida, or any other spot for that matter-there is a pay component to it, but you should be able to get free access to this part. https://surfing-waves.com/atlas/north_america/usa/east_coast/florida/southern_florida/spot/sebastian_inlet.html
Have a great trip!

i like seeing seals because that means for the sharks theres a better option for lunch than me. i dont like seeing the because theyve been known to bite, and i dont like seeing turtles because they weigh almost as much as i do and they pop up right by me and dont seem to be afraid of bumping me.
shark statistics comparing your chances on getting killed in a car crash kinda stuff rather that attacked by a shark are stupid because everyone rides in a car and most people do 2-4 times or more a day, while maybe 1 in 50 people surf, maybe once a week at the most. i dont know anyone whos been killed by a shark, nor do i know many people who surf. everyone i know rides in a car, and i dont know anyone whos been killed in a crash either. so whats my point?
-that comparison is way off and full of xxxxx.
