Marmite has been a bit of an issue since I got to Oz. First of all I couldnt find marmite, so had to try Vegemite and a variety of other alternatives - all revolting.

Then I found 'marmite'... which wasnt marmite at all
It was black, it said marmite on the pot, it was a yeast-based delicacy... it was
:spew:

But then, every now and then, in aussie supermarkets you'll see the familiar black and yellow pot, except they call it 'Our Mate'
And it disappears in seconds as all the poms grab a trolley full

I had the same troubles in the US in fact for while i used to import the marmite from an online store until i found a local store that carried the stuff. Now if i could confince them to carry SAMP (south african product) and Safari Guava rolls (another south african product) I could stop importing my favs  (mind you neither of those products are available in the UK  )

Woaw woaw!!!

Hold on a minute there!!! If you were French or Italian or Chinese or something I'd except that statement, but from an American!?!
  You crazy!!

Anyway, back to the cornbread, is that whats used in a cornDOG and do they always come on a stick and served it on a polystyrene tray with a couple sqirts of red and yellow sauce or is that just in the films and Venice Beach?

Mmmmmh, American cuisine!

And while I'm on it, this is your fault isaluteyou, whats the deal with beef jerky? Salty, dry beef sounds good but no way is it!

Twinkies!?!

erm....can't think of anything else American.....oh thats right you stole you cuisine from every other culture and maybe added your own twist like deep frying it or adding more fat in other ways!
:P (licking lips emoticon)

No thats not cornbread!
this is cornbread!

And Americans invented the BBQ, not to mention the creole cuisine of New Orleans where my fathers side of the family is from..

I am half russian and I have to say out of everything I've tried russian food is by far the overall worst.

I don't want to be rude.. but that sounds truly disgusting.. I can't put ketchup on anything... maybe as we call them "french fries" but thats it.

I will put hot sauce, cayenne pepper, and mustard on almost everything!

This isn't the bacon you UK folk have?

And I don't cover things in hot sauce so its all you can taste, I like to add the right hotsauce to the right dish to help the flavor with the spicy enhancement. I make my own hotsauce and I have about 12 different bottles for different foods, one for eggs, one for steak, one for poultry/poultry stews etc etc. I love it! Some of it has no real flavor just a spicy burn, and some have a strong strong flavor for things like shrimp po boy sandwiches. I am a hotsauce fanatic :)

There are of course multiple types of barbeque in the states, what is called barbeque in Memphis, Tennessee is vastly different from the barbeque you'll find in North Carolina, which is still different than what they call barbeque in Texas, and so on and so forth.
There are several foods that originated in the states/americas, had to, as the plants used to produce them were indigenous to the americas, such as the potato.

America has a lot of generic food. But there are some specialty dishes that are absolutely amazing.

But given that we are a young country with people from other countries living here... we have other culture's dishes as our own haha.

In Hawaii, most of us eat chili and stew with rice. Then again, we eat also eat bacon and eggs with rice and a local favorite, loco moco, which is a hamurger patty, brown gravy, egg over easy, on a bed of rice.
