Sweet Jesu! It could be a helluva lot worse. Cheer up! You're alive and well, and there's plenty more fish in that big, beautiful, friendly ocean!

I always try to look at things comparitively. Ever see the pictures of the guys who got skinned alive by the Taliban? Now that's a bad day. Not to minimize losing somebody, that sucks royally. But, it is the nature of life after all. Just know the pain goes away some with time and it doesn't do you any good to fall into a prolonged self destructive drinking binge. If you've still got your health, your arms, your legs, and you can still surf you've got alot to be happy about. So stick to a regular size self destructive drinking binge (when you start getting fat it's a good sign you mourned enough). I drank too long when my dad died. Like a year. I loved that old guy. He wouldn't have wanted me to trash my liver that much. Just go appreciate those you've still got. That's my advice.

Nice words of wisdom from PapaW & Noserope.

Sorry to hear things weren't going well for you essex. Surfing definitely makes the unbearable a little more bearable. Glad to hear you're feeling better.

As for relationship stuff, sometimes the ending of a relationship is a blessing in disguise. The boyfriend who taught me how to surf cheated on me, but if it wasn't for him I never would have started surfing and therefore never would have met my husband who was definitely an upgrade for the previous model. Also, what goes around comes around...I think that chick he cheated on me with, cheated on him later down the line.

Maybe it was your time for an upgrade. :-)

Does that ever work? It's been my experience the reason you broke up in the first place is still there. Or the one who got broke up on can't resist breaking back up for revenge. Or one or both don't really want to get back together except long enough to get some. I think the only time I've heard of that working is when the groveling cheater type guy gets taken back (at least til the next time)

Sorry to hear that, isaluteyou. I used to think the same thing about men. I think it's one of those "grass is always greener..." things. I think what matters is finding something with similar values, who will be loyal to you, respect you, and accept you for you are. If I waited for my "soulmate" I'd probably die a spinster.
