Friends...who´d áve ém!?

Postby Johnny B » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:38 am

So...my Portugal trip is coming to an end. After only 2 weeks :( .

My best friend has recently moved to Brussels to work; his first real job. But heś in trouble. He hates the place, is lonely (has made no friends there yet), can´t speak French and to make things worse his girlfriend has pretty much ended their relationship.

He is generally good at hiding his emotions but last time I spoke to him he sounded really down. Okay, I can´t imagine he´s suicidal or owt but if nothing else he might end up quitting a 22k/year job! (Don´t ask! Heś a jammy bastardo!).

So I´m packing my bags and flying home tomorrow and getting a flight to Brussels the next day. I may be over reacting but if he ever needed a mate by his side now is the time. What a time for it to happen though! Grr!

I am doing the right thing, do ya think? Have any of you made any big sacrifices for friends like this?

What!!!

You're going to give up a surf trip to go and see a miserable git in Brussels???

I did the same thing in Brasil.............a mate of mine had moved to the capital Brasillia right in the middle of the country 100's of miles away from the nearest surf, to start a new job.

He was also depressed and lonely and I spent more time there than I really wanted to..........although it was great to see my mate who I hadnt seen for years, by the end of 10 days, I was suicidal

I'm sureyour mate can wait a few more weeks for you to get there 8)

Thanks folks :)

Kind words. And it is nice to know I'm not being daft. I'm back in the UK now and have a flight booked for tomorrow. I'm sad to have left Portugal, I'd just met some lovely Swedish lasses too (the surf was pretty crap when I left though) .

I only just told me pal that I'm coming, he's delighted!

Cheers.

By the way Surferdude, when I get back I'm gonna be down at my rents' place near York. Thought I might pop down to Scarborough for a surf if there is any at the time, I was just wondering if you can walk/bus to any of the spots from the bus station?

Sorry Brah,
No friend on earth I'd give up a surf vacation for under those circumstances. Maybe if he needed an immediate transplant of some kind, but no because he was "blue" about a move.

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!

Male- :(

Although, I can't say it's all bad, now that I'm here he's back to normal and we're having a laugh. We're off to Amsterdam on at the weekend too, so I'm not complaining.
