'surf look' hair gel

Postby thaya » Thu Oct 19, 2006 9:32 am

I was shopping for bits and pieces like you do (you know, shampoo etc) and I saw this green bottle of hair gel that said something like 'for the surf look'. I started chuckling a little (well, I think it's funny!) and this teenage girl walked over and picked it up, so I smiled and said "it's much more fun to get the surf look by going surfing". She gave me a strange look and ran off with the bottle. I didn't mean what I said to be rude, rather some magical advice that would inspire her to surf ( ). do you think i was rude? I just thought it's so strange that people will PAY money to make their hair look messed up like you've been surfing  And anyway, I'm sure salt water sprayed in your hair would probably do it (not that i've tried) and be much cheaper.

No I don't think you were rude Thaya, just stating a fact!

The messy hair look is in, surfing is going through a short term fad amongst the 'trendy' so they've just made a connection with 'clever' marketing

No hair product can match the dried salt-water effect!!

Take some 'learn to surf' leaflets into the store and put them next to the product

As we edge towards winter, you'll need to sit in the chilled section (fruit juice and yogurts are always a good choice) for the rosy cheeked/blue fingers look

don't forget a bit of sand in your ears and a runny nose (hot food might do that). maybe rub lemon in your eyes to get that all day sting-y feel? and rub your bare hands and feet around all the shelving in the hope that you get a few cuts and grazes - climb one of them and fall off for the ulitmate 'board-hitting-you-when-you-wipeout' look. that should do it.

if its that fructis "surf hair" stuff, my mrs uses it. It doesnt actually make your hair look anything like youve been surfing (as you can tell from the models on the packaging).

I used it the other day when I'd run out of hairspray....

Thank f*** it failed to provide me with my "surf look" - apparently work don't like it when you turn up looking like a frizzy Marge Simpson!

Actually, that 'Surf Gel' really works. But you have to use it in a particular way:

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Apply <<Brand Name>> 'Surf Hair' liberally to the eyeballs and inside of nostrils, inhaling sharply. Squeeze remainder of gel into dirty toilet, add 3 bags of salt (sea salt preferable) and 2 bags of crushed ice. Insert head and flush.

This essentially gives you the 'authentic surf look'

I'm surprised they didn't think of it sooner.

I mean, those people wearing Holister or rash guards out to the clubs need to lend some authenticity to their posuering.

Next will be sand/glitter and seaweed hair accessories.
