Gutted - I've Broke my Leg

Postby Johno » Wed Oct 18, 2006 4:36 pm

I am not a happy chappy, went out Friday 13th had a bit to much to drink, broke my leg and now I cant surf.

Totally totally gutted just when we were getting good waves every weekend and i was improving I break my leg,

I’ve broken me tib (the little bone in the lower leg) and cant put wait on it fore six weeks.

Don’t know how long it’s going to be till I can surf or do any contact sport again

Any one else had injuries that have stopped them surfing?

Yep injury wise i gave myself a hernia through kitesurfing which resulted in a few months off the water and this was shortly followed by another kitesurfing injury in the form of a torn cartilidge in one of my knees and another 6 months off the water. Had about a year off the water in total over the period of 2 years. Grrrr.

Hope you get better soon

I snapped my collar-bone in March and couldn't surf for 3 to 4 months (I know you probably don't want to hear the timescale - you may heal quicker dependent on your age & fitness level!)

I guess you're on pain killers at the mo. The one piece of advice I can give, due to my experience, is that the mental 'pain' is worse than the physical. This happened to me after the physical pain reduced after some weeks. Be ready for it and push all the negative "will I surf again?" "will I be as good as before?" sort of thing. You will be and in time for spring!

I know it's tough right know but try to be positive; you'll be back in the water... I am with no ill effects.

Hope this helps

Take care

Johno, Go out a buy a nice blank and give shaping a try. By the time you shape your own board, you may be back in the water. Or if you dont fix your own dings, find a beater board, and learn how to do good ding repair.

At least its surf related.

awwwwwwwwwwwwww that's awful. i've been out of action for ages cuz of a shoulder injury. i recommend enjoying the painkillers, catching up on loads of sleep and watching as many surfing DVDs as possible. it's upsetting at first cuz they make you wanna surf when you can't, but when you get over that, you realise that it's the next best thing to actually surfing. They cheered me up no end. hope it's not too bad a break. keep us all posted on your progress. x

:bang: :bang:

That sucks. And what a time of year to do it....

How did you do it? Well, yeah, "alcohol", but a bit more specifically?

I am fortunately blessed with the fact that my balance doesnt go when Im drunk... although, I do take the piss and indoboard drunk quite often, and its only a matter of time before I crash through my glass coffee table

Hope you recover nice and quick.

Tanks for all you support, I’m so so board the last 6 days have felt like a year, this is the first time in years I have sat on my arse and done nothing.

The funny thing is, I did this injury jumping over a 4 foot wall taking a short cut to the pizza pan. my mates helped me hobble there when I ordered my food I paid for it then when I got to the end of the queue the twats said I hadn’t paid, er er then had a big blazing argument and told them to stick the kebab were the sun don’t shine.

So the moral of the story is I broke my leg for nothing and went home hungry
