Good deal or pass?

Postby SnakePlissken » Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:02 pm

Beginning skater, thinking I'd like a surf skate. Is this a good deal, and is it good for a beginner?

That board is NOT a "BLIND" sk8board. That is a Carve board Surf Stik. It's a lot easier to get around than the bigger Carve board with the big pneumatic tires, but the feeling and angle of the deep carves is not the same. To me those boards are only fun on a slight decline.

1) $120.00 is not bad. New was like $235.00
2) The wheels are coned shaped. So less rolling resistance going straight , then a lot of grip when leaned over. I put those on my Globe Bantam ( like a Penny board ) and they fly.
3) "Good for a beginner ?" I guess anything that gets you going from rail to rail will help your surfing.
4) If you remember Pro surfer Brad Gerlach, his dad created the Carve board company and Brad used that as part of his teaching technique. I really learned a lot from Brad's teaching and owned both Carve board and Carve surf stiks. But to me "Carver" provides the best surfing on the street experience ( in the smallest amount of space and time needed )

It's obo, if you can get it below 100 i say go for it.

Try a gentle lowball and see if they'll meet you in the middle.

The thing about the cone wheels sounds very cool.

Glad I didn't buy from this guy in the bottom corner

1) I learned most stuff from being a surf buyer and going to trade shows year in year out. You see a lot of crazy ideas come and go and a lot of time you get to try out early prototypes before they hit the market, to give honest feedback to the manufacturers.

2) If you lived near me you'd say, " Dang, that house sure got a lot of junk stack up all over the place. "

Speaking of crazy ideas...
Found this on eBay and just couldn't let it go. It's called a flowboard. Reviews range from "fun to ride but belongs hanging on the wall" to "love this thing". 1.5 hours left on bidding. If nothing else it's novel and cool and I want it.

You'll want it until you find out the true cost of ownership ( like hot cars or hot _____ ) . But if you do get it, ride UNTIL you need to change the bearing and then get rid of it for cheap. By the way, there is 28 of them bearings.

Stop wasting your money and just get a CARVER.

I can't help it! It was just too strange and cool to let go. Have you ridden one?

Yes, kind of a rough ride. Probably really fun on a polished concrete rhythm skate park.

I can imagine. I bet it's also got a lot of friction because of so many wheels. If nothing else it looks cool. Looking forward to that carve board but I wish I had found one with the balloon tires.

Surf Stik showed today and it's awesome! Way more fun than my skateboard! First thing I did was kick off and catch my foot on the wheel because it sticks out so much. Then I putted along at a crawling pace signaling aircraft with my arms because it's got so much lateral movent. After about 20 min I was more confident on it than my regular skateboard. In fact probably overconfident. But either way I was going way faster and sloloming down the road and I love it. So glad I have this thing!

Snake, Here's your chance to get in on the ground floor and be the only one on the block with this cool skateboard.

"Dokido" Self-Propelling longboard. So you can work on your pumping skills too.

I do love quirky mechanics. Sadly it's been cancelled. And at a projected price of $900, it's probably for the best. Maybe I can make one. Take one of the hubs from a bike where when you pedal backwards it brakes, put it in a big wheel, fit it to a long board and ya?

Planning to turn any skateboard into an electric skateboard is a good idea these days. In a world where cars flock to the streets, nobody wants to spend time in unmoving traffic.

Bikes and electric skateboards have become the best alternatives to these road issues. They’re governed with less strict rules, and neither of them causes heavy traffic. So, if you want to get rid of the idle time you spend on busy roads, let the best electric skateboards help you achieve a seamless commute. :)
