Surf Gear Brand

Postby Robinsoncrusso » Wed Nov 15, 2017 4:14 am

Hi,

I am planning to buy a new Surf Gear. But i am confused of which brand to buy.
So can anyone suggest me some good brand to buy?

Thanks!

Surf gear like what? When I surf I have a board, fins, legrope, boardies and a watch. On more complicated days I'll include a vest and the most will have reef booties thrown in. Some may argue but for me surfing is not about gear, though I have my favourites for boardies and leg ropes.

It will vary with what you want to buy. But personally I am not into brands
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I've got mix and match of everything. Oneil, ripcurl, quiksilver, billabong, xcel, surfdome and mares. They are all pretty much the same. I don't find one that is far superior than the other. Few years ago I made a post here and bought something like 7-9 wetsuits to compare. I didn't find one that fits 100% and to my requirments. Maybe I'm just too picky.

Is the more expensive "brand" the "better" brand ?
Will a "brand" hammer not smash your finger as much as a $1 store hammer ?
A Ferrari IS a better brand of car than a Honda. But wouldn't a Honda be more practical for most peoples needs ?

The best surf gear brand for me is the one that's on sale. I don't know if I'll ever develop any brand loyalty. I bought a pair of Billabong surf gloves for $25 (on sale), but they only lasted about three weeks before the seams started separating. So, I'm currently not a fan of Billabong.

The best wetsuit/booties/gloves are the ones that fit your body best. I personally like xcel wetsuits for the fit.Quicksilver booties are great for wide feet. I use any leash that my local surf shop carries. Def. sex wax partly that's the only one I've used since way before I started surfing (for windsurfing), and partly because it's a local company to me. Boards and fins tend to be local stuff as well, but that's just because they are well trusted among locals here for its quality and its match for the conditions. Honestly, at my skill level I don't think I can tell that much of a difference among various shapers/manufacturers. Overall, the price range and being a good match for my body or skill level are bigger factors for me, not the names.

I remember with skiing I was very focused on manufacturers and everyone around me had his/her favorites but I feel there's less of that in surfing.. . or I'm older thus wiser about not being affected by trends and marketing.
