Best Hotels Near Surfing Area?

I am very excited for surfing. But Surfing area should be near hotels.

Tourist stay in hotels, not locals. Locals surf at local surf spots, not tourist. However, One "surfing area" that does welcome tourist and has a lot of hotels is Waikiki on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. You can get a lesson from one of the famous Waikiki Beach Boys ( like Duke Kahanamoku was ). Not really for shortboards though, that you can find just outside of the Waikiki area.
