Shark chompin' in NC

Postby billie_morini » Mon Jun 15, 2015 4:03 am

Two shark attacks at Oak Island, North Carolina, USA, today. Both are serious and, unfortunately, the first victim lost part of an arm and may lose one leg. The second victim was hit within an hour. Not much news about him. Most likely culprit are bull sharks. They are responsible for the high shark attack rate in Florida.

Here's the news story, if you want to read it: http://news.yahoo.com/north-carolina-shark-attack-leaves-teen-girl-severely-222559365.html. At minimum, throw Oak Island, NC into Google maps to see where this occurred. It's not far south from Wilmington and Kure & Wrightsville Beaches. These are two places I spent a lot of time as a kid, probably because this area was a favorite of my Mother's. The salt water fishing is phenomenal in this region, even to this day. That is why I'd go there and to Carolina Beach as a young adult.

Just tragic for these kids.

Two attacks in the same area at around the same time? Coincidence? Rogue shark? I think it is some other unkown factor stimulating this tragic incident, like maybe the sharks were chasing fish along the coastline
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

It happened again in NC. This time a shark in shallow water bit a kid in Surf City, NC. This is about 110 km (70 mi) north of the two shark bites in NC on 14 June. As kid, I spent a lot of time in the sea close to Surf City. This entire area has many long narrow barrier islands, which are very pretty (except where condo hell was allowed to ensue. We fight so hard in Santa Barbara County to prevent this, McMansions, and anything similar to Orange County, CA).

My father told me once when he was enjoy swimming in Andros Island he saw a man who was bitten by a shark in Bahamas and injured. It was a live seen experience for him and he said that when this happened his senses stop working that how to rescue him.
