Everyone makes mistakes in life and, it's how you react to those situations that matters. No one said you it was "Wrong" to advertise your product. They even said it was Okay, just you need to go through the proper channels. But the way you reacted, getting defensive and just wanted to forget about it, calls in to question your true intentions. You want to promote the Surfer's Lifestyle and the culture of our sport, yet you not acting like one. How different would it be if you said " oh, sorry, didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know ". Since you are a surfer, why don't you contribute to the forum and share you experiences in your life as a surfer ? That was your original goal right ?
The worse feeling I get surfing is trying to help someone when they sit in the pit or paddles in front as I come down the line. Sometimes a bit of advice like " don't sit there because that's where the wave will break or don't paddle thru the break, paddling around is safer " is met with " don't tell me how to surf, no one owns the ocean, well, back home we ....... blah blah blah. Say sorry, learn from the locals, make friends and enjoy surfing. They're trying to help you.
