Cerviche!

Postby billie_morini » Mon Jun 22, 2015 6:42 am

Southern California beaches are getting invaded by the tens of thousands of red Tuna Crab (Pleuroncodes planipes) washed up by the surf.

No one is certain why this is occurring. These crab are called Tuna Crab because tuna fish love to eat them! It's impressive to see photos of the beaches covered by these crab. The photos also made me curious about the crab. I learned they a species of squat lobster (not crab!) and are also called langostino and langostilla.

Reading about this crab / lobster or whatever it is, made me wonder if they are edible. Turns out they are! So today, I made Langostino - Avocado Cerviche. Oh, boy! The result was lip-smackin' good!

My first thought is I would be down there picking up the ones that are still alive and cooking them. Not too sure about cerviche but I guess if you are still alive then all is good.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
