Website for finding and locating boards

Postby onedge » Tue Apr 29, 2014 12:07 am

Hey Guys

Just posting to see whether anyone in the surfing community would find a website that enables people to find the ideal board, with the easy use of a few filter a useful tool

you would pick the options suitable to yourself to find what brands have the products you need, it would then be displayed in various board shapes.

and also having an option for more experienced riders who know what they want, to just choose a brand and then it located stores around you who stock those brands.

any thoughts if it would be useful in this industry any feedback would be rad :)

cheers

Surfboard making is not an exact science so not sure how that would translate into simple numbers. There are also variations in surfers skill and drive to learn and fitness that would affect which board would be best for them and then it also depends on the waves they intend to surf in. Then because surfboards are expensive to ship you would want to know locally produced boards. There are lots of board makers and for this to work you would have to have them all register and give out exact details of the boards they make. Ultimately board design is changing so advanced surfers want to try the latest stuff and so may not know what is the latest stuff. It's hard to beat a good relationship with a good surf board maker. I guess that perhaps a website that would help a beginner pick the approximate dimensions of a board might be useful, but for more than that it will be problematic. There are lots of boards that look quite similar but work quite different so I don't know how you could put all the data needed to describe a board into an easy to do format. Maybe with a 3D printer you can just order a board and get it made via 3D printer locally...,.someday.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

thanks for the reply

yeah i completely agree with what you are suggesting and this website is designed to push people towards local stores so they can get in touch with a dealer and ask more about the boards that we reccomend they try

and i totally agree with having close connections to a board maker but in australia sometimes its hard to have connections like this

if i had the funding for a 3d personalised board construciotn business i would have been creating the prototypes by now haha

cheers

Just thought of that application for a 3D printer. It will probably get done at some point. If all the designs get put into a data base then the website will be more useful and in fact necessary .
