I think you've totally done the right thing. If you're not surfing much and enjoying other hobbies instead, then it makes sense, especially if the board wasn't right for you in the first place. if you were really attached to the vw or the board, it would have been FAR too difficult to part with them, and if you weren't attached to them then you didn't need them!
This way, you can save so much money by not throwing it all at your vw surf mobile which you don't use, and save it for other stuff including renting a few boards to see what suits, and buying a better board later on when the time is right.
just because you sold your board and van doesn't mean you're never going to surf again... and if you're enjoying doing other things then what's wrong with that?!!!
Despite the fact that i do miss not being able to surf, I've come to realize that surfing isn't everything! playing in a band can be just as much fun
(well, almost) and at least if you ever have a weekend free and suddenly decide you want to surf, you can easily hire some gear for a day every now and again and mess around on some lovely summer ripples
