Bloody iTunes!!!

Postby Real Pol » Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:02 pm

You know if they want you to use their bloody software for their bloody hardware they could at least make it work!! The amount of time things fleshin' up is unbelievable! I stupidly upgraded when I got prompted and for the umpteenth time it's decided it doesn't recognise the place where I store my music (external hard drive). Which means I'll have to delete iTunes and reload it. Of course when you do that albums are always messed up and it'll take ages to get into a way I like it!!!

Absolutely ragin'!!!

aghhhhhhhhh! sounds very frustrating :bang: i'm not technologically advanced enough to use (or even know much about) itunes

i can however, relate to your frustration and annoyance. this evening i was trying to use someone else's printer/copier where i'm staying to copy some ultra important stuff that i have to send off in the morning to medic alert before my annual membership expires in 3 days and the bloody thing wouldn't work. there was no colour ink, only black and white (which might not sound like a problem). only trouble is, the copier wouldn't copy without being connected to my laptop, and then kept printing using the empty colour cartridge so the page was blank, and refused to acknowledge there was a black cartridge in there, even though i ticked all the boxes saying i wanted to print in black and white. i tried swapping the cartridges round and put the black and white in the colour one, but then it just said error and made a horrible noise! I spent over an hour screaming at the bloody thing and couldn't get it to work  this means that rather than strolling to the post box outside my house in the morning, i've gotta get on a bus to the nearest library to use a photocopying machine (assuming i'll find one there and it works???) and i'm really poorly so it's just the last thing i need :( :bang:

technology is fantastic when it works, but bloody annoying when it doesn't! I'm ready to throw myself out the window, never mind the bloody printer!

Hey Real Pol

Being a mac user, I'm not that experienced at dealing with difficult technology, but if you have your whole library on your ipod, you can just delete what's on your computer and rip it back off the ipod, should come out exactly the same.

Anyway - it's peeeerrrrruking snow right now  7 weeks till the season starts, but I reckon there would be some freshies to be had with a bit of a walk/climb tomorrow.

Doesnt work in that direction.
Obviously you can make it work in that direction by downloading various bits and bobs, but it wont out of the box, as it were. :?

Obviously it's naughty to nick music, but www.ipodhacks.com is a good place to start finding out how to transfer your library back off your ipod.

Yeah this has happened to me before. Basically I think iTunes doesn't really like you storing your music anywhere else than on the computer hard drive and when you upgrade sometimes it disables the link between the program and the storage. The last time it happened I trawelled through the internet to find out if there was an easy fix, which there isn't. The only way (I've found) is to delete the itunes program and the reload it and reload all the music back on. It a few hours, but the problem is the other times I've done it it explodes albums and mixes things up.
I'm mean is it really that difficult to write programs which work!?! Come on boffins, lets get this sorted!!!

You know I haven't owned a printer since I was at Uni, I always just used the companies now and it's such a relief! I remember the stress I used to have trying to get things printed off the night before they were due in. And back in those days we didn't have record able cds and memory sticks so it was never easy to hop to an new computer. There was no way you could get a decent sized paper with a couple of charts and pictures on one floppy disk.

You can turn that "feature" off - on a mac it's under preferences>advanced, then uncheck the box for letting itunes organise your music. Probably similar on a PC.

I think iTunes gets confused by having a mouse with 2 or more buttons.

Honestly itunes is a pile of dog crap, even worse on windows, that 'trash your music collection' option is enabled by default and usualy its way too late to do anything about it once its screwed over your directory structure.

so what exactly is happening? are you on windows? because most likely it can be solved just by deleting the prefs file. i had to do this the other day. for some reason i had sound check on, and itunes kept freezing analysing the volume of a certain song. do this:

-go to my computer
-c:/ drive
-documents and settings
-*user folder* (it's depends on what you 'named' your computer)
-(make sure you have show hidden folders/files enabled) application data
-apple computer
-itunes
-delete iTunesPrefs file

this basically puts itunes back to initial settings from a fresh installation. your library, playlists, etc, stay intact; you just have to go through that kind of wizard thing, setting it up. then go into the preferences in itunes and mess with the stuff you'd like to. make sure you have the itunes music folder as your external hard drive (it's under the 'advanced' tab).

i also have all my music on an external, but it never had problems recognising it
