if you turn surfing into a religion the snowboarders are going to start giving us terms like smurfs" those goddamn smurfs they own the media" and the like, before you know it they will be persecuting and killing us off when we go up there then well start killing them off when the come to the beach then the skaters will start killing everyone and make us their slaves and nail someone to their surfboard or burn them on it and so on. bad stuff man, bad stuff.

so no worse then the current religions then......

maybe even better in the long run because thanks to global warming we might not get snow anymore and we are cutting down all the forests so no wood for skate decks soon.... two secs while i go start my car and leave it running and shred all the paper in my printer..... done! problem solved

er does that mean the breaks will be more or less crowded on a sunday??
Would we have to pray to the almighty surf god?
I guess surf shacks would become a shrine of sorts
no I'm confused now.....

Im sort of a panthiest. Believe that nature is God, believe in reincarnation in a way, and believe in evolution. Dont believe in the whole Jesus thing...didnt seem right and made no sense in the end. Surfing a religion? Ive been thinking about that for a while because you could say that you get a "religious" experience when surfing, but hey I dunno. Who would you praise? Tom Blake? The great Duke? Some random made up surfing God? Religion is a funny thing, everyone believes in something but is not absolutley certain that they are right, or certain what they actually believe in. Religion is a sensitive topic and I generally tend to not get invovled

So no, surfing should not be a religion unfotunatley. Its more of a passion and way of life hey...

If I offended anyone I apologise, also sorry that I posted this a year after the last post

see: surfing magazine's issue about surfing becoming an 'official' religion. i think it was july or august. they call it, 'aquatic nature religion' or something like that. some professor somewhere wrote a big paper about it. the cover of it says, "NATURE=GOD." that i agree with. but from my life, the closest, 'religious experiences,' are from when i am either surfing or doing something else outdoors. i never have gotten the same feeling while at church or any other religious thing

Absolutely FULLY with you there. Never gotten a religious experience while in church. I actually found church a real long winded drag....It bored me (sorry to those who are christians, I do not mean any offence). But put me on the beach and I will bow down to my creator Mother Nature any day! I just feel so spiritually rivived after going to the beach, be it to surf or just chill. While after going to church I felt like time was almost wasted in a way because I spent an hour or more singing and praying to something I wasnt even sure existed.

Again, I apologise to those whom I may have offended

:D , whats next politics. Religion is doing thinks ( termed as works) to make you feel God likes you more and you think you will get into Heaven by your own good will. Faith is believing in Jesus and what he did for us on the cross, and that alone will get you a one way ticket.
So yes religion has it wrong.
:unuts: waiting for the onslaught.

Chalk me up as another official Jedi !!!

I put it on the census cos it was funny but after arguing with a religious zelot about it I begun to think that actually it holds up pretty well with my real world beliefs,

there is no gap between me and you as there is a constant stream of matter in the forms of materials gasses enegy etc....everything is linked and nothing is truly lost, just passed from one for to another, bith to decay and on again...the force is strong in this 'un

getting myself pimped out with some crazy jedi tattoos to prove it too as soon as im in one place for long enough and can find a tattooist who can do good circles.
