photo albums - yay or nay?

i've got an entire shelf of photo albums (16) which i've been lugging around from place to place for around 15 years. it looks like i'm gonna have to move again soon and i'm wondering whether it's worth keeping them when i could technically scan them onto a cd or something. it would save lots of space and mean less stuff to move!

obviously there's a few really special albums i'd never get rid of, but i've got lots with ordinary kinda stuff, things that i'd always want to look at again, but don't necessarily need in an album. i was thinking i might scan most of them onto cd's and then chuck the old albums out.... but then i worry that i might lose the cd or delete it by accident or something!

so, i was just curious as to what everyone else does? do you still make/keep albums? i must admit, i don't print out photos anymore now i have a digital camera, I just store them on my pc, except for important stuff like my hawaii trip or special occasions like weddings etc.

what do you think?

nothing beats a hard copy

try consolidating them into a smaller number of albums, getting rid of less important pictures (scan them first).
I can't suggest much else, as I always prefer being able to touch/hold a picture rather than look at it on a computer,

I say scan them incase something happens but definitely keep the photo albums. We talk about it frequently with my photo buds about how saying, hey come look at my pictures on my computer, yeah hold on its upstairs......

is much less effective than having them sitting out, hard copy, change it when you want, etc.

hmmmmmmmmmmm.... i'm still undecided. i think i might have a look through them and have a good think. i just hate having "stuff". maybe i'll compromise and reduce them by half... keeping really important/ special stuff and then scanning the more random/ ordinary pics? i'm thinking i'll regret it though, and i do prefer looking through an album than switching on the computer. i don't know...

you could always put the actual photos in storage boxes after scanning and removing them from the album, as the storage boxes will take up less room, and you'll still be able to look at the actual pictures.

i hadn't even thought of putting them in storage boxes! Great idea. Last night I got an old shoe box, painted it pink (naturally ) sprinkled it with glitter, labelled it "photos"- Job done Been through all my albums, kept 5 really important ones and put all my other pics into the box. It's amazing how many photos you can actually cram into a shoebox . Takes up much less room and means I haven't thrown any photos away! thanks!

oh - and papaW, I already have 3 collages in large frames!!! It's a good idea but I reckon 3 is enough.... maybe I'll just swap the pics around now and again
