Is it just me

Postby Milo » Fri May 16, 2008 8:10 pm

I had to fill out a form at the post office today. Name, address, d.o.b, age, and nationality. So i put English as i am, was told i could not put English but had to put British.
Under the list of nationalities was Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Bangladesh, Pakistani, Afro Caribbean, Indian etc. My point is i`m English as a nationality not British as British covers English, Welsh, and Scottish.
So i changed it to Bangladesh  .
Don`t you just love red tape. Or is this post racist, just cant keep up with modern liberal thinking.

I wouldnt say you're being racist at all,. We had this conversation a youth club the other day and there is some thing where in some instances you're from 'great britain' and other times the 'UK' and other times 'english'. I really cant remember the finer details of why but it goes back into ye old legal statutes and stuff

For the purposes of government forms etc if i remember it correctly you're either British-English, British-Welsh, British-Scottish or British-Irish. Or Bangladeshi obviously.

Yeah the red tape and bureaucracy in this country is way out of hand.

I love the brick walls I have to deal with every time I need a new passport or driving licence... Have to present both my Dutch and British birth certificates and my local school records.

Put a passport application in this week for a new British passport, and cos we don't have a Dutch consul over here everything has to go through the Rotterdam Stadhuis that I was registered at, meaning I won't get my new passport for about 8 weeks.

Both my Dutch and British passports are out of date, and cos of the lack of consul situation, I have to wait for my British one to come before I can get my Dutch one sorted out as that one has to be done in Holland.

Buggers up the holiday plans somewhat, but atleast I'll get a long weekend in Holland to sort the passport out
