Looks like we won't even have that option in California much longer.

Schools and the state want their money
Even though home school kids more often then not test higher then publically schooled kids they think you should be a teacher to home school your kids. Or something else equally retarded.

There was a reprieve in that case yesterday (see link). The CA Court of Appeals agreed to re-hear the case so, for now, homeschoolers are good to go.

It's kind of silly anyway, as a lot of homeschooled kids are associated with a school of some sort, be it private, public or public charter school, so they usually have contact (online, phone, in person, etc.) with a trained (I won't say credentialed/licensed) teacher on a regular basis anyway.

Who has more crowds??? Who gets more surf??? Hummm.

Ventura and Santa Barbara are plagued by the Channel Islands. The Islands block many of the swells that come from the North. Some spots are more territorial than others. They all get crowded if there's a swell coming in.

L.A. Surf generally sucks here. Miles and miles of shifting sand bottom beach break. Big day, massive close out walls crash down. Standouts are Malibu in the north, El Porto in Manhatten or Redondo Beach Jetty on big south swells.

Orange County is also miles of shifting sand beach break, but there are more options to higher quality surf. Seal Beach Jetty, The Piers, and spots do get peaky in between. To the south you've got Salt Creek. Some Orange County surfers seem to be a bit more aggro than your typical So Cal type.

San Diego is pretty much the best pick as far as crowds and surf go. More consistent surf hits San Diego beaches from every direction, check a map, Ventura needs a strong south swell as does Santa Barbara. Generally the crowd will be mellow, show respect, get respect kind of thing, although we have our little nazis as well.

In a nutshell, that's my view.

actually, the california teachers association isnt in charge of education. the system gets screwed up by administrators at the top of the food chain. they dont care about education, they care about test results. as a result, teachers arent allowed to teach. so thats really what happens when you put idiots in charge of education.

I don't buy it. CTA isn't running the system, but it's got it's fingerprints on anything that happens within the state school system. Besides that, it's one GIANT block of votes. All the politicians pander to the teachers, firefighters and police just before elections, but they fall off the radar after the elections. I've seen the teachers in my local High School (Distinguished School Award, blah blah) in action, and I remain unimpressed. So if you don't measure a student's progress by testing, how is it done? I do agree with you though, the top of the food chain gets the best cut of meat.

I have a boat.....I love the Islands. Otter u are right about the shadow effect......did you know 40 minutes in my boat gets you to an empty line up that is twice the size of anywhere on the coast.

I think everybody should live in Diego :D

I will stay here cuz I'm stubborn

Any one want to pay gas...With that little south here, I'm surfing Santa Cruz Island this week....I love VTA.
Otter take off a day, and I will show you the light. I'm sure you are right about the both, you have lived at both. I have my reasons for my local attachment tho.
