The first wave I remember riding was sometime in 1994 but it is hard to say. Grew up on the beach body surfing and boogie boarding so i don't know if that counts. If so sometime in the mid-80s.

Raglan Beach, NZ in 2004. Soft top. That was just white water though.

First unbroken wave was a week or so later near Gisborne.

Summer of 1965, I was five, Takanasee beach club had 10 inch waves that broke in eight inches of water 10 yards off shore. You had to walk out through the twelve inch deep spot before you got out to the breakers on the bar. I broke three styros there that summer. What a blast.
My pop finally let me have a real surfboard in 69". It was a ten footer he cut down to 6'6" , traced a new nose using a big hub cap, chopped a horizontal pie slice out of it, pinched the bottom up to the top and glassed it that way using way too much resin. It nosedived on the first wave and flew up behind me, I stood up and looked around for it and it landed on my head. It's been love ever since.

i started bodyboarding back in 1988, surfed my first wave in 1989 in Peru, moved to the states where i did waterskiing in summer and snow boarding in winter, went back to Peru in mid 1994, and started surfing again, not too often, about 5 years later i started going everyday, no i live between spain and peru so i only surf everday when in peru, and in spain when i can, about twice a month

sometime between 1996-1998
how can you remember when youve caught hundreds or thousands since? besides, the first wave i caught was one of the least impressive. i can vaguely remember when i started doing cutbacks and staying on the face though. about 4 years ago.
